I think among the very first designs they released. I only ever collect the older types. I have some mid century 'luster ware' and ton of good quality vases and bowls and beautiful 1915 -1920 tea and coffee sets but aim for the older 1902 Maruki Mark and in particular the rose collection.</p><p><br /></p><p>I think they switched around 1926 to a different sytle of writing. I am getting rusty now remembering but just as Gothenborg has said the curled up ends with the wide space ( made in japan) stopped in 1926-1928 i think. I am not certain but the backmark ( blue or green) with the Noritake company logo and Maruki in the circle and then the spaced out Made in Japan underneath is the older mark or the oldest of those marks from 1908 -1926 and then after this time we have the same exact backmark but it is more closely/tightly worded with the made in japan ( same mark but the MadeInJapan is spaced more tightly and is more commonly found in green rather than blue with red being later again) these tight spaced are usually newer ( like 1930's+ ) , but not necessarily but usually.. 1928/1930's and on. Anyway the teapot sold for $14,500 dollars on 80 bids. Cabbage Rose and haviland pink roses are apparently in huge demand and apparently Asia has something to do with the demand.</p><p><br /></p><p>However that makes me wonder because Noritake are handpainted and antique and very good quality porcelain. Matter of time before these have some greater value. I have to admit that i have a huge Noritake collection. As the wisdom of buying antiques.. Rarity, quality and condition suit these very old Maruki Marks, and the quality of Nortiake porcelain is excellent with very high bone ash, and it has that illustrious delicate white which is singatory of noritake and impossible to fake or copy cheaply and they are usually always in good condition. When i began collecting they were also inexpensive.
