In 1757 it was re-numbered 60th. It served under General Wolfe in North America, where it was granted its motto, CELER ET AUDAX. In 1815 the Regiment became Light Infantry and in 1824 it became a Rifle Corps, being re-designated 60th Duke of York’s Own Rifle Corps, at some point thereafter adopting the Maltese Cross and strung bugle devices common to Rifle units. In 1830 it became 60th (The King’s Royal Rifle Corps) Regiment of Foot, now with the Maltese Cross and bugle emblems and with two scrolls, one above the top and the other below the bottom arms of the cross, with overall a curved Victoria crown. By the time of the Cardwell reforms of 1881 the Regiment was known simply as the King’s Royal Rifle Corps and the badge had lost the upper and lower scrolls, after which the only visible changes were to the shape of the crown. In 1958 the Regiment became part of the Green Jacket Brigade, when the regular battalions were supposed to wear the Brigade cap badge. In 1966 the Royal Green Jackets Regiment was formed, the Regiment becoming 2nd Battalion The Royal Green Jackets (The King’s Royal Rifle Corps), wearing the Royal Green Jackets Regiment cap badge. In 1968 the KRRC sub-title was dropped.</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Physical description</b></p><p>A Maltese Cross, on the top arm of which a tablet inscribed &quot;CELER ET AUDAX&quot; (Swift and Bold). Above the tablet an imperial (King&#039;s) crown. In the centre of the cross is a circle inscribed &quot;THE KING&#039;S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS&quot;. Within the circle, voided, is a stringed bugle.
