I only run into that name as I'm a huge Insulator collector!

I was looking at an old Whitall Tatum catalog in Google books. They made fancy cut glass perfume bottles, too. And some very strange looking nasal douche devices!:nailbiting:

Pat, there are dozens and dozens of Whitall Tatum marks.:banghead:

The closest I've found to matching the logo on the glass cabinet is on their Acme baby nursing bottles, and that's only the configuration of the letters, which are inside of a star on the glass baby bottles.

This is from an 1880 Whitall Tatum catalog:

    Here's a few real ones

The ACME NURSING BOTTLE round bottom TEAR DROP shaped TURTLE NURSER Ended:Oct 07, 2016, Winning bid: US $19.99 [ 1 bid ]

This one (below) matches the trademark/logo in the catalog.

    Wow! Thanks, Laura.
My wife bought this at an auction Friday night. The auctioneers did not know anything about it so it sold cheap. Sue, my wife, is a bead/jewelry collector and plans to mount it in her bead room and store special items in it. Our next task is to find or make a key for the lock. I am a clock collector/repairer, so I may have to make one on my lathe.
We appreciate the help researching this item. Plan to continue looking for more details. Glad to find this forum. We enjoy antiques. Sue has some that are thousands of years old. Yes, I said thousands. She is also a rockhound.

Thanks, Pat. Learning more with each post. I wonder why the holes are in the case. Especially the large one.??!

Could the holes be for running electricity into the case? Maybe someone put in after market lights. Are there any small holes inside the cabinet anywhere where a light could have been mounted?

I took more photos. Some are duplicate. Don't know why. Shows all holes. The one in the top left does not go through case. About 3/4 inch.

Well, there was Terwilliger & Wakefield Ice Cream and Dairy in Ridgewood, NJ back in the sixties +/-, but I don't believe that shield was part of it........

The following Glass Bottle Marks says the company used the trademark name of W.T. & Co. (Whitall Tatum & Company) from c1851 to 1901 - note the "&". From 1901 to 1938 used the trademark name of W.T.Co. (Whitall Tatum Company) - note no "&." As the trademark on your cabinet has W.T. & Co., I suspect your cabinet dates from c1851-1901.

Scroll over 1/2 to 2/3rds of the way down the page to "W.T.CO." near the end of the Ws:

Hmmmm.... I didn't notice the INC. Welllll, having INC and the ampersand is a contradiction of info on notable websites about the history of this company.:sour:

Both the Glass Bottle site and the Sha.org website say that the ampersand was discontinued in 1901. The Sha.org (Society of Historical Archaeology) on the history of the company says the company was incorporated in 1901 and at the same time the ampersand was discontinued.

"2. The ampersand (&) was used in the mark during the pre-incorporation period from the 1870s to 1901. Bottles following the 1901 incorporation lack the ampersand."

Sooooo, as to dating the glass in this cabinet, I now believe it dates from the earliest 1901 to whenever the company was disbanded or taken over by another company.

This is a pdf file on the history of WHitall, Tatum & Co. on the notable Sha.org (Society of Historical Archaeology) website.

If it is not the logo of Whitall Tatum Company, we'll be back to square one. Won't be the first time!

Could it be that the glass was made by Whithall Tatum and the cabinet contracted out by them? The holes are strange to me; in such odd places and the large one?
