Thank you for this great info!! I logged in this morning and started getting phone calls right after (which led to all sorts of other stuff to do) Just now getting back. Quite pleased with possible value of this necklace :) I actually have more questions now but going to look around the web/see if I can find any answers myself.

after 1.4.1872 when the assay letter was integrated into the mark.
Pest as one half of Budapest would have marked as such till 1937.
if it's an F then it's getting more complicated because Lemberg became Lwów and Polish in 1918. but it should be researched if the square mark is not an additional Polish one for 800 from 1920.

I was hoping that I'd be able to narrow down the year and find the maker, but no luck ~ except for this little bit I noticed about year...(and looks like I could have just waited for Fid on this!) Basically though, I noticed that everyone selling an item like this just uses the date range and the maker's initials ~ no details!

    Another pic of mark ~ Agree it's a P?

I do still need help with a couple things, please...
    1. I guessed at amethyst. Think it's correct?
    2. What would be a fair price for this?

Thank you all so much for the help!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

u need a gem tester or a gemologist ...but it looks like amethyst...from here.

a fair price.....is what you would feel comfortable selling it at......
less than that and you'll think you're giving it away....
more than that ........& you'll think it's worth even more..

What do U think a fair price should be ?

I have wondered if those really cheap gem testers you see on ebay are any good? I'll find a picture.
