    From Pennsylvania to Sydney Australia.
I called the USPS store in Pennsylvania and they said that the higher price they quoted me is the price that they are given but if I buy my own label from usps and send to them they can affix it and just charge me for packaging.
Luckily they offered that option when I pointed out the price on the website but what price are you interpreting on the USPS website? have you ever bought your own label? Any tips or hacks?
It doesn't fit inside the fixed rate box unfortunately which to me seems to max out at 6 inches on one dimension.

The item was dropped off to a UPS in Pennsylvania they have packaged it up.
I called the USPS (the government) and they said it would be $213 US dollars to ship and it won't fit inside their flat rate boxes. The 6 inch side is too big.

UPS said if I organise for the USPS label to be emailed to them they will just charge me for packaging however USPS said that I cannot purchase a label because I am from outside of the USA so I need to find someone in the USA who can purchase a label for me and then email it to the UPS in Pennsylvania.

I'm trying to figure out why the seller just made it UPS's problem instead of working with you to ship it themselves...then they could just buy USPS postage. I'm sorry, USA postal prices are insane.

Have you tried making an account at USPS.com (under "Click n Ship") and buying a label there? You can then download it as a PDF to send to the UPS store you're talking to. Maybe use a Paypal account to pay if it doesn't like your international payment?

If for some reason USPS site blocks you from that, is it possible you could use Pirateship.com? Despite the name, it's just an online shipping label discount service for USPS and UPS and does not charge you to use them. I use them for all my labels outside of my sales through the e Bay. The price may even be a little cheaper. Again, you can download the label and email it.

I'm sorry you're having such trouble. What a pain.

I don't know whether or not they have a deal running with the local ups because they are definitely gouging the local ups is.

It is sitting with a UPS store in Pennsylvania who are quoting the 400 to send it by USPS or quoting even more to send it by UPS I just checked DHL and they are the same price as UPS

However when I checked with USPS directly they only charge $216 but the issue is that I need to buy the label and have that emailed to the UPS store and then they will only charge me for packaging. In other words I pay for the USPS postage rather than them paying at their inflated price.

The problem is that I cannot buy the USPS label because I do not live in the USA and you cannot buy USPS services if you are not US based (I rang USPS).
I tried signing up with a USA address after it wouldn't let me with an Australian address but then when I got to the payment thing it didn't like my credit card I think it knows my credit card billing address and then it didn't work with PayPal either because perhaps PayPal knows my billing address I will have a look at this pirate ship one that you are talking about because obviously USPS are quite comprehensive about not allowing non-us-based people to buy labels.

The other option is I have a friend who is currently visiting the USA perhaps he can buy the label directly from a usps post office but I was unable to call USPS at this time due to the time difference to confirm if he can do that I don't want to waste as time as he is a very busy guy.

UPS prices are for packing (including packing supplies) & shipping. This is going to need a lot more than wadded newspaper to travel safely. Last I knew USPS doesn't pack for you.

Was told once, correctly or not I don't know for sure, that many shippers will not ship marble & none will insure because of the fragility.

This one is double packed by the ups store the issue I am trying to do is get it picked up from there at a reasonable price because going through them is a ridiculous price going through the local store

I do not envy him trying to buy in person and explaining he doesn't have the package with him to measure/weigh to the surly USPS workers... Also the labels you get in person are small ones that basically look like long stamps and do not have addresses printed on them as the online ones do. Then you'd have to physically mail it to the UPS Store? What an adventure!

UPS, FEDEX, and DHL have always been much more expensive than USPS. It's criminal what they charge now.

Pirate ship offers ups label for only $120 (80% off ) Hopefully the ups store accepts affixing an online purchased ups store label to a parcel they quoted 4 times the price to ship?

Does this mean you managed to get her home?!? :woot:

She looks really lovely sitting there. The light makes her glow. Very pretty carving in the fabric and her hair.

Yeah I did thanks to the help of people on here suggesting pirateship.
Only cost 127 US dollars plus $40 packaging that's a lot better than the 440 that I was looking like getting stuck with.

I am going to give the statue a good dust and then I am going to clean it with white spirits

Yay!!! I'm glad my suggestion worked and they didn't hassle you about the label. Hopefully pirateship will be an avenue for any other antiquers trying to get items out of the USA (or sending sales from it cheaper).

I was kind of reading without my glasses yes that was you definitely thanks so much.
It's a great option. A lot of auctions on invaluable though they use particular shippers only so it's still a question of getting someone to pack the item
