"I’m not sure where the family was from originally. I may have paid too much. I’m not sure. My wife and I have decided to refurnish our home and get rid of all the box store furniture that doesn’t last and fill our home with antiques. The craftsmen ship and creativeness is superior on a whole different level."

Bravo indeed. If only more folks were like you! I think you got a very good deal on a quality piece, no worries.....plus, it's cool to have a family piece, even if it's somebody else's family :). Now it can be in your family, and will hopefully stay there for another 140 years.

If you elect to restore the bed, please come back and post some before and after photos. In these days of indifference and even hostility to the jewels of the past, it's wonderful to see someone with some appreciation and respect for 19th century craftsmanship and materials!

I looked at Hunt auction archives on his annual museum sale, didn't find any price lists though. He gets big money for his high end pieces, he sold a Belter bedroom suite a few years ago for 200k which raised a few eyebrows.
Hunt is a Louisiana boy so he knows the product and obviously has contacts there which is a mecca for all things Victorian.

I think Ghopper has pretty much got this covered but would go with "a bit earlier", as suggested. There are some elements of Rococo Revival to this and this could very well be of Southern manufacture. While this bed is not quite as refined, you might want to look at the work of Prudent Mallard out of New Orleans for comparison.
