Yes - they are fast - I can't catch them. They are very upright :

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

That is so unusual-looking. My new favorite fowl. Used to be Guinea Fowl.

    Hi Gila,
I had Guinea Fowl when growing up. Had one wander away. My neighbor about 2 miles away found it pecking at her front screen door. She was screaming and called the county police who were going to shoot the poor thing. They had never seen such an animal but thought it was a vulture since it had no head feathers and why it was trying to get in the house.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: They were really good eating.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    GREGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!
    Don't eat them, LOVE them!!!!
I have been unable to eat birds for a long time, since I began living with the parrot... would be like eating kitties or doggies, to me...
Sorry if I sound too cray-cray.

    Hi Gila,
I knew that would have you go crazy. We did not eat them. They were "watch dogs". If anything came onto the farm near the house and barns they would fly into the trees and shriek their heads off. They were just very strange birds, no one around us had ever seen them before. Remember we lived way out in the boondocks. That is why Mrs. Taylor was screaming, she thought it was trying to get in her house to eat her. The police never saw them before either.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

That's a much better story, Gregsie!
My grandparents kept them as pets. Come to think of it, they WERE good watch birds!

Rayo, this is officially known now as a thread that has careened off the poster's original topic.
But something tells me you don't mind!

Welcome glad you can post pics! Love the ducks! I have chickens but haven't had ducks because of lack of a pond. Actually with all the Canada geese I feel like we have lots of fowl!

Now I'm going to have to go look for the spinning wheel thread. I have a spinning wheel project sitting in the garage I keep meaning to get to. Not sure what's missing so this will be good incentive to have a good look.

(Guinea fowl are supposed to be good tick eaters and they have the most wonderful feathers!)

    Hi,
When I was younger I used to drive my Gram crazy. Her brother taught me how to hypnotize chickens. I used to have 8 to 10 of them laying on their backs and not moving for 10 mins. It drove Gram crazy. She threatened to beat me, tried bribing me I would not tell her how to do it. She used to call her brother all kinds of names.
We never told her how to do it. I wonder if I could still do it? Have to get some chickens first. Hi Gila would you like to find out how to do it to your bird????

When I was growing up my Daddy raised all kinds of animals (we lived in "the country") and had a "duck pond."

Daddy always bragged on the cakes my mother made. She used duck eggs (not chicken eggs) in her cakes. ;)

I've heard duck eggs are excellent for baking, I had a friend that swore by them. Our chicken eggs are pretty "eggy" tasting, stronger than store bought. Not as big as a duck egg though.
