    Avocado green???? In houses????

First house DH and I bought was decorated entirely in avocado green carpet (which covered up beautiful oak hardwood floors). Wood paneling in the large den was painted avocado green to go with the carpet.

I always wondered how the lady of the house (who had been an airline stewardess and always looked like she just stepped out on a fashion runway) could stand that avocado green carpet in the entire house.

Found out from the neighbors a few years after we moved there (and after we ripped up all that avocado green carpet) that she suffered from agoraphobia (she wouldn't/couldn't even go out in the front yard to see her very young daughter get on or off the school bus).

DH and I decided that the horrible green carpet was her "substitute" for the "green" tree-shrub-flower-grass-filled world outside of her house.

LOL, well I was always outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping, etc. I just remember seeing a pic in a fashion magazine and thought WOW,so my 1st DH and I went to Sears and had the colors custom made.:p

After the kitchen was painted orange with avacodo trim and of course the same avacodo frige, stove and trash masher. Lasted maybe a year? Then I paneled the walls in a vinyl panelling and got rid of the green trim. Then went to bright yellow stove and frige. AGain, what was I thinking? Oh the 70's.:yuck:

Oh and my living and dining room had royal blue carpet.

    Hi,
Oh goodness, I painted my kitchen orange and white with the avocado green appliances. No excuse for the paint but the appliances were almost free. Paid 50 bucks for the stove, refridge, sink and counter tops and dishwasher, they came out of a model home. This was 1969.

For that amount of money, even I would accept those colors! I have enormous faith in paint!
    Morning, Greg!

What objection could there be to a teapot?

Surely everyone has sets of cutlery all boxed and apparently never used since the wedding gifts were dispayed?

The nearest thing to an estate sale over here would be a house contents sale held on site, and if it's a decent house, you can be sure to find a selection of the local dealers' unsalable stock mixed in with the genuine family stuff. Nothing like a bit of phoney provenance.

    Davenports and kettle drums
    and swallow-tail coats
table cloths and patent leather shoes
    bathing suits and bowling balls
    and clarinets and rings
    and all this radio really
    needs is a fuse
    a tinker, a tailor
    a soldier's things
his rifle, his boots full of rocks
and this one is for bravery
and this one is for me
    and everything's a dollar
    in this box

    Cuff links and hub caps
    trophies and paperbacks
    it's good transportation
but the brakes aren't so hot
    necktie and boxing gloves
    this jackknife is rusted
you can pound that dent out
    on the hood

    a tinker, a tailor
    a soldier's things
his rifle, his boots full of rocks
oh, and this one is for bravery
and this one is for me
    and everything's a dollar
    in this box

I didn't see anyone mention this on this thread
    white milk glass.

I know that some people sell white milk glass very well, I am just not one of those people who can move it at all.

We didn't have the Avocado Green color but were very hip with Harvest Gold pots and pans. Oh so groovy.

A drawer full of old silverplate flatware with huge heal rubs on all of the pieces.

Loads of florist vases. A basement full of tired old Christmas junk.

And, somewhere in there, a real treasure that's been waiting for me to find it, I just know it! LOL!
