It really is a very cool house & the yard with that view is absolutely wonderful, but my knees are aching just thinking about all the stairs inside.:eek::eek:

    When was it built?

Built in 1886 but the foundation is 1826, the house that was originally on the foundation was moved down the road a hundred yards where it still stands and is used as a summer home by a distant cousin.
The stairs are a bit narrow, especially in the back from the kitchen.

So that explains the "1886" over the middle upper window. Just curious but . . . is that usual or unusual for older houses in your area to have on the front of their houses? ;)

Pretty common here and if they're really old some have the original owners name with the date on a plaque, some added by the present owners and some by historical societies.
I grew up in a first period colonial north of here but we didn't have date plaque on it.

It truly is a beautiful home, and to me the photos suggest that the occupants are warm and friendly.:cat:

By your name, I thought you lived in Germany. Is Anundverkaufen German?

    Just curious.

You obviously enjoyed Colorado too if you spent 30 years there.

I did live in Germany for a few years, first wife was German, anundverkaufen was the name on my favorite second hand shop in Offenbach.

Beautiful home and I love the front gate.

Yourturntoloveit, It's very common in Massachusetts for historical homes to be marked. Some even have historical events or people listed. A friend of mine lived in area where almost every home had a date or historical plaque but his did not. He felt left out so he had one made that said "In 1698 absolutely nothing happened on this spot".
