Jones - fishing boats on water

I would like to add my two cents worth if I may.
I Purchased a painting for $6.00 a few years back when I was vacationing in Cape Porpoise Maine. It’s a rather large painting, Measuring 35 x 26, of a harbor scene by W. Jones at a church thrift store. Naturally I wanted to do some research on it when I got back home,
and I found some on eBay, Etsy, auction sites, antique stores online, But I never really found out who, or what his first name was. I just happened onto this site and read remarks how several people feel that this is a nice store painting.
Honestly it made me wonder because why haven’t I’ve been able to find anything out about this person? Then I realized I don’t think I have ever seen a duplicate of any of his work. Please correct me if I’m wrong.I’m going to post three pictures, one belongs to me and the other two are interesting to say the
least.

But it's an oil painting...

 

"Factory Paintings" refer to paintings done en masse quickly by workers. Some are copies, some original compositions (and then copied), and they are all painted. To make them more marketable, they often have Western looking names signed on them.

Dafen Village is the most famous one and you can read more here. Lots of articles on it if you search.

 

I can buy oil paint at a local store tomorrow..........and a canvas ..and brushes,,,,,
