Huguenots, for those not familiar, were French people who were Protestants in a Catholic land, in this case France, at a time when that was dangerous to your health.
The Bieber family immigrated from Hirschland France which is on the border of Germany in the Rhine river valley and spoke Palatine German (whatever that is).
It's up to $1500. at the moment, again, what is the number?

Yes, when the Edict of Nantes was revoked in France, the U.S. got one of it's first ethnic "waves." Could Justin be a distant relation?

$1500? That's early days. Don't know your limit, but I'd be prepared to get much more serious before it's over! :)

This is a real jewel of a piece. No wonder that his work is admired so much. Too bad others caught on. Unlikely you will be able to work your usual skullduggery and get it for a song.

True, the internet is NOT your friend in this case, it's a single object that is not in a group of similar or better objects, an online sale only, bla bla bla.
Plus, I am not 100% sure it is a Bieber chest, 90% just don't cut it if it does go for big dollars, it could still be an antique chest decorated in the Bieber style. This is a problem with photographs only, they lie about old furniture. And NO, i ain't goin to PA to examine this chest, to old, to lazy. :hilarious:
Another problem is, Bieber is so "new" to the scene, not a lot of research on him, it's either in the pipeline or not published as of today.
Still, I'll play along, see what happens, nothing beat a try but failure!:cigar:

LOL, what are you tryin to say here! I don't call it skullduggery! I call it being prepared to exploit an opportunity when it presents itself! :p:happy:

We all know who you are. :D:D:D Let the unwary beware. Now the fact that your perspicacity is based on years of study does not belie your ability to wrest hidden treasure from some unwitting auction house for pennies on the dollar. I call that skullduggery.

Makes you wonder who consigned it and why they didn't provide the auction house with more information. At some point, somebody knew what they had.

(A propos of nothing at all: it was the revocation of the edict of Nantes that set the Faberges on the road that eventually led them to Russia.)

NO! lol, I call it, being patient, being prepared and being willing to pull the trigger at the right opportunity. Are you suggesting i should pay more than the asking price? just because i may know something someone else doesn't? Hope not cuz it ain't happening!:p
WOW! didn't know that. It seems a lot of talent fled France during this time, FOOLISH!

Well, you know, i try to stay unemotional (i know, easier said than done!) about this kind of thing because if you don't, it often leads to expensive & poor decisions.
OTOH, if it is a genuine Bieber chest, another consideration is absolutely in play, paint restoration on a wood surface, a process i don't know much about except, it ain't cheap to do correctly.

WONDERFUL video, James!!! And one I SAVED!!!! Thanks for posting that!!:):):)

AND, PRETTY PLEASE keep us posted how it all goes, since I don't think most of us have signed in to the auction!!????

Meanwhile, still on the case over here on this chest and the family of joiners who immigrated here in the mid 18th century.
Ordered the only book known that has any research on Bieber & it's taking forever to get here! It was published in Oct 2019 so very recent by, Richard L.T. Orth
"The Early Decorated Furniture of the Pennsylvania Dutch: 18th century Bieber Family of Craftsmen & Other Folk Artists"
Fired off an email to the guy who published that 2012 article on the "edelweiss" chest, emailed a descendant of the Bieber family as well who tracks his great grandfathers work. HEY! if you don't ask & push a bit, NOTHING HAPPENS!:singing:
Looked up recent sales of Bieber chests and they are ALL OVER the place price wise which i was kinda expecting.

1788 chest, feet replaced, some inpainting. Sold in 2001 for 6k
