Jade occurs in all sorts of colors, but the light avocado color of this piece was the first thing that made me feel it required careful & suspicious inspection. The color in the new photos is even less like most jade one sees.

INH has circled the little pits that are probably the most conclusive evidence that the lady started life as a liquid. Some other telltale signs of modern Chinese resin reproduction work are the way that area in the top circle looks craggy in outline, but smooth on the surface, & those parallel scratches on the bottoms of the feet, meant to make you think some actual carving was involved.

First glance resin, due to very waxy look, shading, and globule on the neck of the instrument. Second and third glances confirmed it.;)

She is Western made. It looks like she is based on Biancaitian, the Chinese version of Hindu Goddess Saraswati. Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom and music, including the vibration/sound that created the universe. She is little known in China, but very popular in Japan, where she is known as Benzaiten. Nevertheless, this girl seems to be inspired by Chinese statues, although her headdress looks a bit Brazilian to me.
