8FEBCED8-709C-41F7-A3CC-DB24F01DA586.jpeg Very rare silver Croix Bosse from Normandy. They very rarely survive because they are very fragile: two very thin silver plates were with repoussé technique stamped to look like diamonds and soldered together.
It was made between 1793-1798 (small eagle stamp).
It was listed together with a bunch of ordinary jewelry, but to me, it immediately stood out. Had to look up the info when I got it home safe.
A bit like your story, Any Jewelry
(Sorry for the hand, again, but it was the only picture I have of this cross)

    Beautiful, Dessert.
For the regional costume wearer of modest means, like my Brabant beauty. Both could also have been worn during mourning, when jewellery had to be demure.
A good eye and enough knowledge to know that it is something special.;)

Woohooo! What a pleasure to find a rare piece in an ordinary lot, uh?;)
Your buying good skills must be nurtured by chocolate... and knowledge! KUDOS!

Kyratango, without chocolate nothing makes sence :hilarious:
Any Jewelry, indeed, for the people with modest means, thats why it came to me.
Gold catches the eye much more easily so I rarely find any for my small budget.

Every so often, those little beauties hide out in plain sight. I scored a piece of micromosaic in a gold setting for a pittance once in a thrift. They usually mark the good stuff up but missed that one. NFS for certain.

A new one joined the growing collection:hilarious:
French buy, a square mark partially saying "doublé" on the small ring.
Immaculate crowned rose cut pastes with a slight golden hue to the foil.
4.5cm long without the bale by 3.3cm wide.
    1860s I think:)

Yay! I find unusual the crowned Dutch rose cut (rose couronnée in French) on paste this size:woot:
I must say I had hope it could be gold and diamonds from the listing pics:angelic:

Silver filigree and enamel cross from one of my rosaries, made ca 1840 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, southern Germany:

I have seen it before, and it really enhances the beauty of the paste imo. I love rose cuts.
It could have been. Still gorgeous though.:)

Bedarned if I didn't buy something a bit similar recently by accident. It was in that $20 grab-it-run bag I got last week. I has a bash to the enamel on the crucifix, but there's a Mary+Jesus enamel on the back that's intact.

Of course you do!:joyful: Very sought after, especially by German collectors, for obvious reasons.
Schwäbisch Gmünd was little more than a village at the time, and these were home made, a true cottage industry. Only two men had learned to make enamel, so these were made within their working life. Two other men hawked the filigree wares in other parts of Southern Germany and Austria.

Schwäbisch Gmünd was one of those European free zones, so they were relatively independent.
But that also meant they weren't part of the southern German and Austrian trade systems or infrastructure.
To be able to sell their crafts to Munich and other towns, the people of Schwäbisch Gmünd dug a road from what was then their isolated town to the main road. By the community for the community.
Those are the wonderful stories I like about ethnic jewellery.:)
Most of those enamel plaques are broken. These rosaries were often tucked into a belt, so they bashed into everything, including hard church benches.:blackeye: Poor little Jesusies.:(
I have photos of my two very different Schwäbisch Gmünd rosaries, I'll see if I can find them, for reference.

It's dark out now, so photography quality will be "ya gets what ya gets" I'm afraid. But I can try.

Best I got. The front image is OK, but the back is a blurry mess. The big chunk is specimen amethyst that someone wire-wrapped. The bracelet is 1930s gold-washed sterling with jade. I added a little bit of chain to make it wearable; the clasp was already detatched. Didn't take much.
