Featured Is there a name for the type of pottery in this necklace?

Not all Wedgwood jewellery plaques have the full mark - some earlier ones don't.

Basalt ware: there's a debate. Some see it as a subset of jasper, sort of. It's the same bisque type body, but the colour additive singles it out. It's still only true basalt if it's Wedgwood.

The pin was made in 1963, so I guess only Deakin & Francis would know.

Judging by similar jewelry, if it was Wedgewood, the back would be open.

Anywhoo, I don't think the value of the pin hangs on whether the plaque is Wedgewood. It's just a unique piece of Churchilliana.

Hope this didn't hijack your thread, @sassafras

I love it when threads go sideways. Makes them much more interesting!

A place I've wanted to see ever since learning about it as a kid. Not that long ago saw/heard something about how many tons of material they lose every year.

You're not supposed to take rocks from the Grand Canyon. You didn't see me pocket that little piece of red rock with the fossil worm holes in it. :angelic:

Got back over to the house yesterday and was able to get a couple more pictures. Still didn't see a mark on it anywhere.
