    I agree with Johnny.
Looks like someone put a table top on the back.
1940s, would have had an upholstery or needlepoint seat cover.

    Edit:
I see book beat me to it.

I see this but the colors are so drastically different on the found one back vs frame. This is what bothers me about it. I'm not saying it's wrong but it certainly seems odd to me.
This one's elements have similar coloring which makes sense..

Much as I happen to like painted furniture, I certainly would not paint that chair! It's odd as all get out, and just delightful as is. (Well, no...I suppose having a seat would be an improvement)

While the form is not unusual, the construction is. It may be a "replacement" back for a damaged for re-purposed base.

In any case, with a bit of attention (which in my opinion does not include paint), this would be the perfect "odd corner" replacement for the cliche ficus plant in most homes, regardless of the decorating genre.

Hey, mansons! What is worse than a ficus plant in the corner? A fake ficus plant, that's what! (Could hardly contain my risibilities...but I did, I did)

Back in the day it was the aspidistra, and the Boston fern, and those tall pointy things that grew brown threads...

Yeah, the obligatory house plant has had species go in and out of style, but what annoys me the most is when a lack of inspiration makes someone follow the trend and just randomly place a tall plant in a space that could be MUCH more interesting................but of course that is what was probably displayed in the Ashley Home Furniture showroom when the uninspired bought a "room package" to fill a filing cabinet space.

Silverthwait, I don't remember/know of the "brown threads" part so perhaps I have a different plant. I do remember/know a "tall pointy" plant (sansevieria) my mother had as an indoor plant beginning in the late 40s/early 50s -- she gave her plant to me in 2003. It is still healthy and growing -- the "spikes" are now over 30 inches high. Just call me sentimental.;)

I have always found the "alternative names" for the plant amusing.

That's the one! And, yes, the alternate names are hilarious. My grandmother had several of the %^&# things, and I truly hated them. I was convinced they could be used as weapons of self-destruction. Apparently they live forever...no matter what.

Looks like Book got it. 1930s vanity chair. Looks correct to me. While that big round back is a bit unusual, it was meant to impress and not unheard of.

  19. Thanks for all the help! I'm already learning a lot from this site. 11261199_10207779785402279_8756924796694086796_n.jpg We actually added a seat and used some cute leopard print material for fun!
