    A point , well made @the blacksmith ... pun intended !!!:playful::playful::playful:

    I notice the edge looks distressed.... but you're right about a dagger like this not having sharp edges in the 1st place.;)

    I see a blade.... I wanna sharpen it..! :p

    & please , disagree with me when and wherever the need arises !!!:happy:

    I still see more than just surface rust..... but that's the photo , & it's not in my hand !

    It is difficult to tell without having the blade in hand (ouch! That hurts), so it could be pitting, but I think not. Hopefully RJM will enlightn us.
    If it is pitted, thn there is not really much to do except clean off any active rust and treat the blade with oil or wax. Autosol is excellent, but not good on pitting.

    I was doing a market many years ago, and on my table I had several japanese swords. a man pickd on e up and turned it upside down and of course the blade shot out. Hw went to grab it but i shouted at him to leave it. luckilly, the end onf the handle landed on the table and the blade didnt unsheath fully. That still give me nightmares!

    As a kid when mum and dad were decorating dad always used a scalpel to cut the corners etc of the wallpapre. My mother used to change the blades by simply holding the blade and twisting it and off it came. I used to hate wathing her do that. That said, she worked in a hospital operating theatre nad did it many time each day! I still cringed watching it thouh!

    I never cut towards myself, ever. Howevr, I do have a bad habit of cutting bread rolls in my hand! So far, so good.................quite probably, the day i try to be careful, tht will bw the day I do cut myself!

    I'll show you my thumb scars if you show me yours! As a teenager working on a model I used my thumb as a cushion when cutting through some plastic. Howvere the blade on the Stanly knife was new and went clean through, straight to the bone! Hopefully, the olny one of my bones Ill ever see!

    Meanwhle, back on topic, where si RJM, I am dying to know about that rust.......:)
