Welll... we do have a very large black snake.. we only knew of him from his long translucent skin shedding. Then one day we had a group of guests in, showing them cannons or something. PLOP! Snake dropped about 20 feet from a pipe right in the middle of the group and group and snake scattered in all directions. No sales that day! Our helpers, both Civil War buffs, have since named our snake "Linstock." Lin was using the pipe to get from one warehouse to another. We've never seen a rodent here but I'll bet Lin has.

Good Linstock!(LOL) You have a pet snake instead of a shop cat. No mice in your place.

I'm naming my warehouse "The Hoarditorium." I'll invite social scientists, Dr. Phil, reps of various do-gooder groups, and reality TV shows over to see one of the world's heaviest hoards. For a fee of course! My agent will show them the fee schedule escalating in hourly cost from brief interviews to case studies to hour-long TV specials. If they insist that I sob and cry on-camera, the fee doubles. With all that revenue pouring in I should be able to buy lots more junk!

Hoarditorium today, before installation of four bays of pallet Racks (32 feet long, 42 inches deep, 16 feet high) which will hold most of the dense cluster of junk now on the floor. That's mostly the stuff I got at the machine tool dealer's liquidation sale. Many large machine tools are in background.

But I DO plan to get the stuff better-organized. You might wonder how we find anything in all those pallet Racks, actually now containing some hundreds of pallets and growing. Until recently I had handwritten paper signs on each, listing contents. That helped but left lots to be desired. Today I bought a big box, 300 lbs plus, of used plastic barcode signs, with very large (8" x 15") barcode image we should be able to read with our mobile devices from say 25 feet away. We'll set up an app with contents associated with each barcode that we can search to find specific items or just display contents of a scanned pallet. I've never had a barcode inventory system before so I have a lot to learn. I downloaded a free barcode reader app just to try it out. I printed the photo below and the Ipad read the code correctly and instantly.

Latest hoardicultural news from here: Erected the pallet Racks that will hold about 50 pallets of stuff that's now on the floor. Kinda like a monster erector set. This took me three long days, now feel pain in many places but happy to be done except for filling some gaps in the screens and anchoring the whole structure. So what do you think of my erection?

The usual way is to use a hammer-drill and drill holes in the concrete floor then insert anchor bolts. Each upright frame has four holes in its feet for this purpose. Lots of work and need landlord's permission, so what I usually do is chain the top of each upright frame to a steel roof beam. Purpose of course is to keep Racks from falling over somehow accidentally.

The Erection is now about 80% populated by volume but only about 20% by weight; it did what I wanted, got smaller stuff off the floor so I can locate the machine tools where they can be powered up and used. Take a good look, this by far as neat as these Racks will ever look; as soon as we start using them daily they'll look as disorganized as those on the other walls.
