Ooh, it's sterling. Polished right up, and marked STERLING around the outside.
Here it is from one side.

And from other, from which I've plucked out a bit of debris. The curious thing is that there is something inside it.

And looking at this photo, I see a lot more debris. How do I clean this properly?

The ones with the box need to be listed on their own!
Having the original box with these old ones is fairly rare.

Perhaps some kind of "scent" pendant?

That makes sense. These are so shiny, clean and hard to pull apart, I have to wonder if he ever even wore them...

Hm, maybe. It does have some sort of scent. I suspect this was his wife's. It smells the same as a lot of her other items do.

Hmm. At first I was thinking a piece paper, then wondered if it might be a pressed flower or leaf. Can't imagine how it got in there except in the manufacturing process, though, because the two sides don't look like they come apart. Right?

Kum a part Cuff buttons (which these are called) are VERY Collectible and should sell easily - especially with the original box!

BTW most of the items with shanks are cuff buttons not cuff links. Check those shanks on both sides, many of these are gold and gold filled. I love cuff buttons and buy them whenever I see them reasonably priced. I used to wear them when I bartended.
I almost forgot to ask - did your client's father have any cigarette lighters?

Yes. An original Heineken lighter in the box. Unused, but sadly frozen. Sold last month. For too little I fear: $4.69. Alas.

Oh my goodness, the Kumapart cuff buttons are beautiful.

And the filigree piece is lovely. I'm like Bakersgma and wonder if/think that perhaps it is a piece of paper or other "keepsake" tucked inside. Letting my imagination go afield, if that is a piece of paper perhaps a tiny lock of hair or just a few strands of hair may be inside the folded paper. Or perhaps the piece of paper has writing on it which will tell "the rest of the story."

Thank you. I thought so too.

Would you know any KWs to describe the Kumapart cuff links?

The filigree piece remains a mystery in so many ways...

The design of these is derived from 18th/19th C pocket watch keys, note the vestigial, non functional key appendages on the bottoms. Evidence of non living items evolving and keeping ancestral characteristics.

If non living things can evolve, can there be any doubt Darwin was right? :)

Thank you. And looking at them, it makes sense. I thought only enamel could be guilloche. Just goes to show how much I (don't) know.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Interesting thread -- I'll have to read it in more detail later. Just wanted to say that I'm glad to see you made it here, northernridge.

Thank you, figtree. Seems like everyone is making it here! It's a great site.

I'm running today, but plan to show more of what's in that box soon.

I've finally done what I should have done in the first place. Separated them into groups and photographed them. I imagine these groups as separate listings each, unless advised otherwise.

First, a dress set in black enamel. All are marked Krements—the studs and vest buttons in two places. However, this set does not seem to be complete, so perhaps I should not offer them as a single listing, but part of a lot?[IMG]
Next, a single set, pretty, by Krementz.
Three pairs of toggle link cuffs. Top to bottom: Speidel, Swank and Pioneer. (The Swanks appear to be missing stone.)
An odd lot of studs and other orphans, in white. Some, not all maybe, look like MOP.
A big lot of orphans, or damaged items. One, 3rd from top left, is marked Extra Plated.
Single beneath it: gold filled. The 3 top right are marked Snap Link.
Two Hickok tie clasps. The bottom one polishes up like sterling, but does appear to be marked that way.
The top one pulls apart, but I can't figure out how tit would attach.
And finally, three remaining items that appear to have no individual value, and perhaps belong with a lot. No idea what the top one is, but it's marked Anson. (I showed it here earlier.)
There are also three adjustable rings—ladies—which I'll offer as a small lot.

I'm leaving town shortly for 24 hours, and look forward to returning to this thread come Sunday morning when I'm bright and fresh. (There will be some weekend festivities in between.)

    Thank you all in advance!

PS. This site is so much better than the old one. I have to say that again. Adding images is a breeze, and fast!

Hmmm. I was hoping to return to more info and advice here today. Do you suppose everyone just got tired of this thread? (I almost started a new one.) Giving this a BUMP.
