A final question? I now have a LOT of costume & it appears fine jewelry - 2 jewelry boxes + 3 reg boxes full; what is the best way to inventory, learn value and sell? (which I'll split with my sister & brother) Does The Real Real that Debora suggested in another post I had questions about (that's another pile of work - 3 or 4 suitcases full of designer clothing from France) handle this with jewelry?
Or do I have to look up each piece one at a time?
    Thanks again

Looks to be turquoise repro; could be dyed howlite, magnesite, or chaulk block Chinese "you name it." The nuggets are too uniform, the color is too uniform. The beads are likely nickel. Overall, it looks 1980s to me. And yes, there are 1000s of genuine turquoise necklaces out there without sterling silver. German silver was popular among crafters. Now, the silver tone metal is a pig in a poke; some from China is even lead.

If I take it to a jewelry store will they be able to tell one way or another?

A real jeweler would; most of these retail outfit chain stores... nah.

As for the boxes of costume, you've got a search on your hands. It's easy to look up names, but unmarked pieces are harder. Some are nothing much, but some are real money. I takes training to know which is what.

Whatever it is made of, odds are my mom bought it at Neiman Marcus or Macy's - she lived in those stores when my parents were married & lived on Miami Beach!

TheRealReal apparently does do jewelry but only high end. Jewelry is so small and fiddly; sounds like you have a lot of work on your hands. If it were mine... I'd do a rough divvie -- fine vs. costume -- and then divide each group into marked vs. unmarked. Then I'd have greater value vs. lesser value and less research vs. more research required. If you post photographs here, we can help you on. Or, even just a list of designer costume marks, for instance. And we can tell you where to focus your efforts.

That's mostly true. Mostly. Some folks like D&E never signed anything, and some signed things aren't worth much - Coro and BSK for instance.
