Basia, in case you're confused, before you spend time trying to find Eboo, he means eBay & no, not a typo.

That is a hinge and the two rivets surely keep the measuring bar in line. That 'clip' slips over that 'keeper' and locks it in place.

Also wondering if there is any chance the drum shaped piece is magnetic?

KoT came in with 'keeper' while I was typing.

Still find it weird that the first measuring mark is 1/3.

No not magnetic at all. And I tried pulling it sideways. Rivets don’t move.

You have to know where to put the pins. Getting a hem to be even is actually pretty tricky.

Hmmm. I meant the little sliding hook. But if the whole thing can be flattened for storage that way, what does the little one do? However it is used, has to be with the ruled side forward. And why are the ruled marks on a separate piece, not just etched on the main upright? Have never seen anything with so many separate pieces, so few of which move!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

pins don't have measurement markers on them....
maybe some kind of tester to see that all are even...?

That thing wouldn't come into direct contact with fabric; it's too rough. It might have something to do with a drapery attachment, but don't ask me what.

What sort of an estate? E.g., urban, suburban, farm. Big fancy house, little humble house? Old house/newer house? Might give a clue to sorts of things owner would need. And of course we all know no one has anything except what's needed.

    Welcome!
So, where are those wild things, Mickey? (M. Sendak reference)

Sewed a lot of hems in my youth; I took my older sister's skirts apart, reusing saved thread, buttons, zipper, having cut them down to fit me. This just doesn't look like it would ever help with hemming.

Would it be part of a handy measure your fish/what have you and with it with a missing scale gizmo?

When I very first saw it, my mind went to part of a scale too, but when you start trying to work out what it could possibly do, you have rule that out right away. If that upper crossbar part is a clip, it looks like a very strong one.

Basia, how long is the part with the ruled marks? 1/3 of what? 1/2 of what? Fractions increase as they go away from what has to be either the top or left hand side. But where is 0? I'm starting to see how it could be a sewing machine attachment, although not what the purpose would be. When in use it went horizontally, with the numbers right way up.

Basia, another question: how much can you pull the simple hook shaped half away from the other part?

From ruler line to end line 1.25” . Hook park only comes up for spring 45 degrees.

Could the short piece with the cylindrical bit act as a clip? Or is the cylinder attached from both sides?

I found it!!! It’s a “tuck creaser”! Thanks to Fiddlybits on YouTube. Take a look at this video. I wonder the age now of my tuck creaser. Looks older than hers. My search continues. But thank you all for your interest and help. This is a great group and I shall be back!
