:woot:ohhhh... you're right, I was trying to find an article in English but I made a mistake. Here you can see a peruvian website is written in spanish but in english it says:

"When does the use of electricity start in Peru and where?

Electricity, as a public service, begins in Lima in 1886. The beginning of its use in public lighting was a phenomenon of worldwide innovation in lighting"

1886 was the date of the first electric illumination in Lima started with the Plaza de Armas and some streets in the city's center and "luego se extendío a los pocos domicilios adyacentes." I'd have to think the rollout was rather slow given public services -- street lighting and transportation -- appear to have been given priority.

Anyway, I would think your chandelier (which is quite attractive, by way) would date to the Edwardian period. How do you know it's silverplate and have you checked it carefully for any marks?

The piece is stunning. Simply stunning. I regrettably don’t have an educated guess on origin. Do you see any makers marks on the piece at all? Also, perhaps those screws around the banding are a clue of age, or perhaps age of modification.

Yes, i checked every inch of the chandelier and there are no marks. I'm sure it's silverplate, it was restored 2 decades ago and replated, it tarnish very easily... Every month i have to polish it to maintain it's shine. So do you think it is probably from England?

Fernando, I have no idea. Where were luxury home goods being imported from to Lima at the turn of last century?

Quite a remarkable piece. I would date it to the late Victorian era ca. 1900-1910. It's actually rather conservative artistically, since figural elements like the stag's heads had their heyday several decades earlier. I've noticed, however, that premium silver pieces such as this tended to carry on Victorian motifs a bit later.

No real idea where it was made, but I'm feeling Germany for some reason.

I would guess that the replating obscured any marks that might have been there (although I am not that confident that there were any there to begin with.)

Most of them from France and England but in general from Europe, also oriental items from China and Japan.

Thanks for that information about the stags ornaments, i didn't know that. German company WMF had a very large silverplated centerpieces very decorated and similar in quality but i never seen a chandelier.

I think Ghopper is spot-on with this. Impossible to know with any certainty but do see some Germanic influence. Could also be Austrian or even French.
