    It's a Victorian still life inspired by the Dutch school. Despite canvas being so clean on reverse, does appear to be period.

    @Tarik Hussein, Did you buy this in New Zealand? It would be nice to find a signature to compare. The Maori Princess is such a different subject matter.

    Just because an artist's credentials are FRWS, it doesn't mean all works are watercolours, just that they are a member of the society.

    He was probably a Brit that emigrated to NZ

    If it's FRHS, (unusual to see on a painting) he/she was a fellow of the royal horticultural society ...on a painting it's kind of like putting M.A.(failed):D:D
