Help dating old glasses and pencil

    Marie - I got sunglasses from Dr. Ciaccio that cost about $32. They aren't as ugly as the cataract glasses, but they do have a side piece with a small extra lens. You should check it out. They fit over my prescription glasses but you could wear them by themselves.

    To the OP - after he retired, my Dad worked as a night watchman in a warehouse for a company that sold all those trinket type goods that you see in dollar stores. He gave my Mom one of those pad and pencil sets almost exactly like yours in 1971. I would think there is a collectors market out there because in most cases, it was the pen that would get lost and not the base that held the pad.

    Not quite accurate.
    These glasses date to the 1840s - 1880s, and are considered Civil War era.

    Also the statement about treating syphilis is questionable. See post 19 with link to civil war enthusiasts discussion on tinted glasses.
