    I just happened to run across a reference to Angelica Kauffmann in Margaret Drabble's book A Personal History with Jigsaw. I'm enclosing a scan here for anyone who is interested in learning more about the artist.

    As her required submission of a self portrait upon her admission to the Accademia di San Luca, Kauffmann portrayed herself as the Allegory of Hope:
