Locally, some of use the French Canadian Tourtiere (when we can remember how to spell it) for meat-based mince. It's a meat and potato pie with two crusts, generally associated with Christmas. Other parts of the US don't have the word; they don't have the Canadian-ancestry population we do either.

ohh regarding Romans ... just read something which may help me get over the fact they destroyed me in my Bou days ...they possibly introduced Spaniels to the country. This may or may not be true but if it IS,then they are redeemed somewhat. I have a cocker,Jude, and he is 'mazin :D

Those are familiar to me too. And I know the Glasgow accent very well, and the Edinburgh one, general Highland and Hebridean English too, through Scottish relatives and many holidays in Scotland. Besides, we have many Brits here in the Netherlands. Irish too.
Here in the Netherlands accents and dialects are different from village to village. In the town where I live I can even distinguish the accents from different parts of the town. I have trouble understanding some Hollanders and West Flemish. I speak 'posh' with a slight Brabant (southern Dutch) accent.

I've spent a lot of time there, I considered it my second home. My Scottish relatives are from originally from Edinburgh.
I find that when Gaels speak English, it sounds very gentle and melodious.

Ah, not a mince pie, then. ;) Ours are the dried fruit version, sweet not savoury, made for Christmas.

Accents: you can still pin point the part of London down to a square mile that some people come from. Our accents can vary within villages a few miles apart.
