I don't think you can tell any more, but I wonder if they would know each other.

If I made a sale like that, I would ship it with a tracking number and eat the cost.

It could be that the school was converted into a house, and the buyer now owns the house. The other bidder...dunno.

Several years ago, when you could still get to 'know' certain people bidding on eBay, I knew 2 individuals that bought up everything related to the small town I was born & raised in (both were a couple of years older than I am) - sometimes they went CRAZY trying to out-bid each other. Now you can't research bidder IDs like you used to be able to do, and took the fun out of watching!

I'm betting there were more than a few sellers who were happy to rake in the money.

A guy walks into an art gallery, sees one piece of art on an easel and priced a $1 million dollars. He asks the artist, why one painting, and 1 million dollars, the artist replied....."I only have to sell one."

That seller sells some really nice antique postcards and although this result is a bit of an outlier it isn't completely out of line with expectations for an apparently very scarce early RPPC postcard. RPPC postcards are the crème of the crop for collectors and there can be some outrageous bidding wars if the subject matter is really good or the card doesn't come up often. I suspect the bidders were local collectors in the know of what is "rare".
