Thanks AJ. I really appreciate it. Now we know. Something to remember about the backs. I feel more than a little guilty now. Also it was an absolute bargain for under $5. I will give it a good home..

Just about. For the crazy price of R85,00 (South African rands) I don’t know, maybe they thought because of the damage and ugly repair?

I actually thought it looked 3D printed when I saw it and thought plastic. The carving almost looks too perfect in places. At the same time though it looks flat and lifeless to me a bit. I don’t like the expression on her face. It’s not serene and beautiful as it should strive to be. However I’d have tripped over myself trying to pay $5 for it. I’d have tripped over myself trying to pay $100 for it too. Overall it’s a beautiful impressive thing and I’d like to have it. The back and the plinth she’s sitting in is just horrible though. It’s nice no doubt but to my eye kind of a shame when you think of the source combined with the what could have been. A so close, yet so far away type carving. Well done though for you for buying it so well!!!

Thanks for the reply. I have a
understanding of that you are saying. It is a pretty thing and I have an appreciation for it. It may have been a great bargain price wise but I still have some mixed feelings about it.. Anyway it is what it is..
