I'm going to back up a little. If memory serves, which is doubt in recent years, the double clips that held a sweater on, attached across the neck/top of a sweater from one side to the other were called sweater guards or sweater clips. THe double pins such as this one were actually pins that were attached/pinned on one side or the other of the sweater and were called sweater pins. One of the pins was pinned slightly above the other.

I bet I beat you to the home; however, I'll save you a seat at the dining table. :(

I realize these are pins but believe my Grandmother called these sweater clasps in general with those that were clasps with a mechanism much like that of clasp earrings. :)

Is a punch in the nose more than a smite?

These were very popular in the 50s. I have several. This is my favorite - the Russian dancers. My aunt wore these on her blouse, not a sweater, but I guess you could wear them on a sweater.

sweaterad.jpg Sweater clips had actual clips like clothespins. The two sides matched. Somewhere I have one that has pink plastic flamingos. These chained pins are not the same thing. These have real pins. Sweater clips had to be able to be removed quickly, thus the clip and not a pin.

    Here's an example.

    I think less.
A smite should take someone to the ground.

Great discussion, with just the right balance of information and humor. I'm sorry that I missed it until now!

I live in confusion, occasionally delusion, and sometimes engage in obfuscation. Add in an overgrown vocabulary and....
