Could be. The white rock is scratched where the front fins are. The question is what goes in the holes? I know you suggested be creative, but I am trying to get to the original artist vision. I sent an email to the Birches Gallery to see if they know.

I talked to Herb Brown of Birches Galleries, who exhibits Gilbert Hay's work. The base is not part of the artist's vision, but was added at some point. He thinks that I should get someone to make a bone or antler rest but this would involve in his mind piercing the original piece to anchor it. He invited me to return to Nova Scotia (which I plan to do anyway) and work with an artist that specializes in working with Indigenous artists and he could make a rest for me. He could also repair the base. Unfortunately, I don't plan to bring my camper when I go to Nova Scotia/Newfoundland again, as the winds are too erratic and powerful for my truck slide in camper, which sits very high about the bed of a truck. I can't carry the heavy piece and base on a plane, so this is no go. I will have to figure something else out if I want to use the base.

That was very nice, he took the time to explain so much and for the invite. :)

No on one side of the seal. Sorry for the confusion. I try to mention all the details but I was so excited about posting this.

Yes. He said he would make me a guest at his B&B TidalViews near Digby. I’ve camped in Digby several times. The Nova Scotians and especially Newfoundlanders are the most hospitable and friendly group of people I’ve ever met.

    no worries Kiko.....
while I find the base to be nice and in the theme.....if it's not part of the sculpture.......think about just tossing it..!
