Featured Giant Yemeni wedding necklace.

    And another one, not so heavy, but huge. The top part is enough for a regular necklace, but they had to add the chainmail and lapis contraption.;)
    It is Pashtun, from Afghanistan. And I finished repairing this one a few years ago (very proud of myself :smug:).

    It was made that way from the start. I don't think it is very old, maybe mid 20th century, but it is traditional, and probably made for a wedding.

    Red wedding outfits too, from what I recall. White = mourning in that part of the world, or did. I'd cheerfully wear those too.

    Misunderstood your original post about this beautiful piece. i thought you meant the chainmail was added to an original necklace, Oooops.

    Turkmen brides wore red, just like Indian brides. Other colours are age related. But although the Uzbek necklace has Turkmen influence, it is a mix of Uzbek and Turkmen. The previous owner bought it in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
