As far as I know, a brocante is a shop, and vide grenier is like a flea market, where anyone can sell with their old stuff.

Oh of course I get those recommended to me often! It didn't occur to me some might know a fair bit about the antiques and go browsing. I'll have a look, thanks for the suggestion! Are there any jewelry focused channels who are good authorities on the subject? I know there's a few out there but I don't want to start being influenced by someone who has no idea what they're on about haha

    I shall triumph!

So vide greniers are garage/car boot sales, they're your locals with attics (greniers) to clean out. Brocantes are flea markets, so all the dealers. You'll always get a few dealers in your vide greniers, and maybe some locals in the bocantes, but generally we steer clear of the brocantes as its a family affair and there's more at vide greniers for all. Plus cheaper!

Also I have a confession to make, 5 is not the most I've paid for an item. I've paid 6 (shock horror I know) for a tigers eye bead necklace and post earring set. Also a marriage, but the earring backs/posts/findings/whatever they're called are sterling.

Yes there are also shops called brocantes too! They're consigment shops, antique or vintage stores, etc etc.

Ah, so I got it wrong, sorry about that @bosko69 .
Yes, those are the ones I know from holidays in France. Some Dutch second hand shops also have a 'Brocante' sign.

I think Lang's post videos on youtube.
I watched one of their videos once through their otherwise excellent site, but the music was so loud and the lady's voice not very pleasant, so I stopped to save my sanity. (What was left of it, anyway.:wacky:)

Oh goodness isn't that just the worst! Its always so difficult to concentrate when those kinds of things grate as they do. I might have to brave the elements and check it out but not sure how well that will go haha, thanks!

Oof yes I know those AI voices all too well! They're okay for short clips/vids but a bit much for longer content I find.

Well my father's English and my mother's American, but they moved down to the Cote d'Azur for work purposes (IT and Head Stewardess on yachts), and that's where they met. I was born here and only lived in the states for about 5 years out of my 23, mainly Mississippi.

Just watched a show on the London shop 'Boodles' crafting & then marketing a 1 million pound emerald necklace.
It took 6 mos to decide on the final design,6 mos to craft the piece, premiere it in Monaco, etc.I think it's in the Boodles Boutique dept at Harrods now.
PS-The behind the scenes sections were great & very down to earth.Kind of a slightly classier version of 'OK-We've got half a ton of Halibut we need to move, all hands on deck !'.

Contrary to many stereotypes-Mississippi's produced some great writers and of course Mississippi/Delta Blues.Blues, amongst some other influences-morphed into Jazz, and if you've ever swung to Django,Coltrane,Nina Simone or even Sinatra, you can thank Mississippi & Louisiana.

I love Curiosity Incorporated; Alexander is Canadian and loves toys, but he used to have his own store and buys/sells just about anything old. The Crazy Lamp Lady doesn't sell many lamps any more, but she knows modern stuff and glass. The prices she gets for things are way out of line with the rest of us, but she has a following who buy stuff. The Antique Nomad is a dealer. He knows 20th century American pottery really well, and something of costume jewelry. I've also been chewing through the Antiques Road Trip episodes on youtube, for fun. They're old UK prices and what they bought vs what sells now is interesting sometimes. (and David Barbie was a doll. loved watching him. )

It's also often a channel for car guys. I am neither, but I understand the passion if not the object of same.

I grew up in the age of hot rods, and later-the birth of the first muscle cars, but I was always a VW Van guy.Of course I dig the old Vettes,Avantis, vintage Bugattis & Jags-just not the carbon emissions.
Environment aside, those cars were always beyond my pay grade-though some are true works of sculptural art.

I adored living in Mississippi! We lived close to Tupelo and that southern small town vibe was right up my alley. I'd love to go back long term at some point.
