Have you ever done anything like this before?
If the answer is no then the main thing is, GO SLOW!
Many first-timers get frustrated when things don't go well, get frantic/manic and start making mistakes, you don't want to do that.
If something starts to go south on you, STOP! take a break and come back to it later after the frustration level has cooled down.

James.............I think we can apply your suggestion to most things we do, especially as newbies.

    Great advice!!!!!:blackeye::blackeye::blackeye:

Actually, that's not quite correct, I know a little bit about it because I hang with furniture builders/restorers but I RARELY (if ever) mess with STRUCTURAL repairs, I leave that to the professionals.
They have the knowledge, tools, materials & shops to deal with those issues.

Hot vinegar works like a charm. It is my go-to when removing old glue from machine-cane channels before replacing the cane.

Meanwhile, INH sets up a furniture repair shop in her garage and, is never heard from again!:eek::oops::p

Vinegar didn’t do so well. It’s very thick glue. What about a hairdryer?

Yes, put some heat on it, a heat gun is better/faster but heat sometimes works

Oh, I almost remembered.... if you faint from all that clamping and gluing exertion, hot vinegar will revive you. It's smells like Easter in Hell.

That is one bad attempt at a glue job (previous person, not you)! You may just need to chip away at it. An x-acto knife might work best but be careful.

Did you heat the vinegar to near boiling? Apply with an eye dropper and really let it soak in? Did you let it sit awhile?

Or a mini grinder like Dremel if you have one.

The dryer is helping. I didn’t heat the vinegar, I’ll try that.

Yes, this gets back to having the tools, a heat gun is far more effective

Didn't we ALL AGREE a few days ago that INH was NOT going to get involved in a "project" piece that involved structural repairs?
Whatever happened to that dealio?:eek::rolleyes:

I’ve gotten it as clean as possible. I think this is as good as it will get. CFECED1C-534F-4F66-91D9-793B32432196.jpeg

Would it take stain if I put sawdust on glue in the gaps?

Is all the glue gone? Gaps don't look good, cant get it any tighter? You probably need clamps
