Hello Fellow 'tiquers,

I've been busy unpacking and buying new old pieces to fit in the new old house. I could use your expertise on this one please. Purchased at a rural Virginia farm estate for $200.Owner ways it was originally purchased at an antiwque Shop din Maryland. She thought it might be Italian. Very dark oak, some old worm holes, and heavily stained with years of nicotine. I removed the inner tacky plastic and machine lace coverings to reveal the cut-outs but have not yet cleaned off all the old smoke residue. I could envision them originally back-lined with red velvet or silk, perhaps?

The labels appear to be for shipping from Quimper PO (post office?), so it somehow has a French connection. It is huge, standing about 80" high by 64" wide, and shows pegs and slots on the top edge where a missing gallery was meant to be. Lovely hand-carving all over, with IHS, host, chalice and candles representing the Eucharist. The center panel slides to left or right when the side doors are opened. Age? Origin? Any other symbolism I've missed? Thank you!
