A wonderful bargain, an antique hinged Saint Esprit or Holy Ghost pendant from Normandy. It is silver and paste. The style is 18th century, but these were also made in the 19th century, which is when this lovely was made. I love the style, some Normandy jewellery shows Flemish influence, and this one certainly does, with all those embellishments and curls. Problem is those tiny French marks. There are two sets of two, one set on the top part with the bow, the other on the dove, both sets are the same two marks. The one in the lozenge is the maker's mark, I will probably have to give up hope of ever finding that.:( But if someone can, I'd be very grateful.:) The other one looks like the 1819 guarantee mark for the West to me, but Normandy is in the Northwest, so I am probably interpreting it wrong. So I need a critical eye, or rather, as many eyes as possible.:) The marks are tiny, these are the best pics I have, both of the dove's head: This is what I think I see, the cute snail mark for the West , but it is probably something entirely different. Thank you for looking.:)
