@BoudiccaJones LOL, "Mom isn't that a SINDY??!" Can totally picture it, I have friends (relatives too) that would blurt something sensitive out like that ON REPEAT, impervious to eye contact from me. The worst (this from a dear friend at thrifts who SHOULD know better) "Are you going to sell that ON EBAY??"

    In general I shop alone.

Hmmm... other garage sale/estate sale rules. No complaining for goodness sake.

One tip, if I have something REALLY GREAT that is underpriced or maybe not priced, I might include some common items --like a towel or office supplies. Something I could use anyway, that sort of makes it look like I am buying everyday items.

I would never leave anything truly valuable on a hold table.

Garage sales are so small typically, if there was something really fabulous, I might buy it, put it in my vehicle or purse and then go back to look around. There is always the risk of some well meaning loud mouth customer arriving and exclaiming what "a great deal" something is.

At thrift stores, if I find something good and I'm driving it around in a cart, first thing I do is grab some shirt off the rack and cover it. I had a competitor one time actually reach into my cart to go on and on about what "a steal" this was -- of course right by the registers and manager. Last time for that. Now I cover.

    Fun thread! :)

Lucille, I know a fella at estate sales who buys stuff and adds some household stuff as well. Then if the estate sale runner quotes a high price, he takes out the household stuff and asks now how much???

I hate at thrift stores when they say, what are you going to do with all those... that comment is usually when I buy the vintage wicker paper plate holders or something of that nature. I just reply, use them.

AHH, @KSW that's the rub, it was a professionally run estate sale! I just made noises about 'How could a well known company like yours let this happen?" and my refund appeared. But I have to say, I was not happy, I really wanted the pieces :(

I'm anxious for seeing garage and estate sale ads start up again. I've been to exactly 1 since COVID took hold. Even our big community sale has been canceled 2 years in row. :(
