that is the best idea greg, a large piece like that would be more secure in a wood frame:)

Just hit me how big (huge) bluumz's piece is. Not sure monofilament appropriate unless very high test. What do they use to go after swordfish?

Monofilament can be well over 100#. However, it comes in big spools and is very pricey!

    Not antique, 1950's-early 60's
    From the latest clearance.

What I thought was an occasional table with a lamp on top in the corner of the bedroom.
I nearly gave it to the charity that helps me until I noticed the top was thicker than normal and opened.

I agree, a wood frame is safest. I know you can get frame sections in wood at places like AC Moore. If your piece is standard dimensions it may be the way to go!

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful info about my peacock. I took it to a local stained glass shop (surprise, there's one about 3 miles from where I live!) and they are going to make it secure for hanging. They will be soldering metal hangers onto the sides of the upper corners. I was told it was best to have the pull of the weight divided and going down each side of the piece, rather than have the entire weight pulling on the metal strip on the top edge. Makes sense!
@Bronwen I asked about fishing line, some of which can withstand the pull of a fish that's over 100 lb, but was discouraged from going that route with something so big (it's 40 inches tall!) So I'll get a bit of chain to hang it when I pick it up in 7-10 days.

@komokwa, your stained glass pieces are beautiful!

EDIT: I did consider getting it framed in wood but I rather like the simplicity as is. The shop said they will check everything to make sure it's stable.

Bunsie is one of two calicos that I have. Cookie isn't quite as curious about new things that come in the house. :)

What you describe sounds like what is on mine. I didn't get a chance to get any pictures today. I was too busy watching the Gamecocks get their butts kicked by Alabama. :arghh::arghh::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Yes...but now that turns the solder into the weak point on the frame.....so it better be thick !!

That occurred to me, too, but I have to trust that they know what they're doing!

Wall hanging looks Schafer und Vater. Magic Eraser will clean it nicely.
