Woo-hoo! A 1930s original Shirley Temple doll with trunk and a couple outfits. Local thrift had it priced at $80 but the tag color was 75% off.

Blimey, thassa fancy car boot sale.

You do also get people selling New Stuff, plus some who sell plants and produce they've grown, which I love. And even a butcher and a fruit stall. There also, by law, has to be an ice cream van and a burger van, and these days, often a van selling proper coffee. One I go to has the most amazing Moroccan food seller, complete with tent and cushions to sit on. The smell is divine.

And porta loos. The least said the better on those.

 

That is a FABULOUS buy Bluumz !!! She appears to be in WONDERFUL condition and her clothing and trunk are worth quite a bit also .. hopefully they still have the Shirley Temple tags still on them .. if not they ARE recognizable by most collectors of ST's. anyway. VERY WELL DONE BLUUMZ !!!! ... Joy.

 

I wouldn't try tidying her hair any Bluumz ... it is her original wig and had those sausage curls all over her head, they have survived quite well packed in her trunk so she is fine .. you will get a good price for her ... Joy.

I'm not going to attempt even the slightest cleaning, ST and her accoutrements will be sold "as found". She is quite loose and desperately needs restringing.
The dress she is wearing and the blue dot dress have the Ideal tag, but the green garment is not tagged. I'm thinking of separating out the 3pc blue dot outfit for sale on it's own. It needs some seam repair but is otherwise very good. Would that be a good idea?

 

Mention the loose stringing in your sale bluumz and leave the buyer to restring.. it will not affect your sale as most collectors already know how to restring. You could sell the dress separately but it's a shame to separate it .. up your price a bit more for the clothing and trunk after checking out sold sales on good condition Shirley Temple DOLLS, that trunk and clothing will bring some good bucks too. When you check the sold prices on the doll go by size also, it would be great if it could all be sold together .. BEST OF LUCK, you did well !!! ... Joy.

 

Actually that tagged ST. dress, hat and bloomers might bring a bit more to your sale .. those original outfits are hard to come by, just make sure if you sell separately the size of the ST. doll that it will fit ... Joy.

 

A few finds at a local antique mall. The quality of the items in these shops has greatly declined in the past few years. Fewer higher ticket items to salivate over and the ones that remain are very optimistically priced. Lots of flea market/thrift store type dealers invading antique malls.

 

Joe - I just scored the Bokar version of that bank a few weeks ago! Evil minds and all that. We don't have "car boot" sales here per se, but some historical societies etc will sometimes organize a tag sale. Folks can pay a fee for a space and set up a blanket, table or what have you and sell a car boot's worth of stuff. There are a few around every year. The merch can include food as Bear mentioned, and some dealers. Some folks sell new items and some old. They can also be indoors, unlike a boot sale. The items at those don't tend to be as good as charity rummage sales, but you never know.

 

The car boot sale is like our local flea markets.

Found this at a thrift store. Beautiful opaque bowl signed and dated. I researched the name and couldn't find anything. Must be a hobbyist, but it's old and pretty. Date is 1896.

 

Bit of an oddball item, and not particularly valuable, but my kitchenalia penchant made me buy it. Lid says, “sanitary cheese preserver, remove lid daily, directions: place one third pint vinegar and one tablespoon full salt in bottom slightly diluted with water, patent applied for“. Heavy glass, stands about 5" tall without lid, and is about 7" diameter.
According to the article I linked to above, the patent would have been received about 1928, so I suppose this one would pre-date that?

EDIT: Hmmm, here's one with the Cambridge sticker and it's lid says Patent Applied For. It's thought that Cambridge took over production of these from Carl Tanner & Co. in the late 1930s.
