Just leaving the car boot sale and everyone was packing up and I noticed this box, opened it- cutlery definitely isn’t my thing but the twisty handle fork caught my eye. The chap said- please take the whole box for £2 so having decided I couldn’t go too far wrong I brought it home. Thought it was all plate and then found 4 USA forks- one marked sterling and two with USA Sterling oddly scratched onto the handle.
Does USA Sterling not have the 925 or are they plate?
A cake knife and fork- only plated I think but intricately engraved about some centenary.
Some nice deco plate cutlery. Probably worthless but I like deco stuff!
Also a very nice knife sharpener that someone has used to knock in nails :rolleyes:and a pair of nutcrackers- both test as silver but maybe plate?. Presumably the only way to check is to file a hole in them  that is against my religion!

    Neat fork, KSW!

The US does not use "925" on flatware, just the word Sterling. However - a caution is necessary. There were companies back in the late-1800s into the 1900s that used the word sterling in their company name - and unfortunately, these were often companies that only made plated items. The scratched in "sterling" seen above is very questionable. Are there other marks further up the handle? The one below that is sterling - looks the OC for Oneida Community (they made both plate and sterling, but only marked this away on actual sterling patterns.

Ha! I just realized that you have some pieces of Oneida's Forever pattern in the first picture! 1939 issue and the pattern picked out by my son (and his then wife) when I offered to give them a "good set."

Can you show the engraved cake pieces you mentioned? Hollow handle items often have their marks hiding on the side or on the bolsters.

Is Forever the Deco type with the band around them?
I’m presuming the cake fork and knife started life together as they are a similar pattern but the fork has community plate on it but the knife only has it on the blade. Also a huge amount of effort has gone into engraving the knife if it is only plate!. Good Sheffield blade that’s sharp as a tack!

Forever is the "Danish" looking design with the line of dots along the bottom edge of the handle.

The Coronation pattern was first issued in 1936, not 1953, so it had nothing to do with the current Queen's coronation (if that's what you were thinking.)

KSW, nice score on the silverware, whether sterling and/or plated. I have been into collecting the silverplate (because I never find sterling.) Yesterday I got two pieces for a quarter in one of your patterns above (the v-shaped at the end one.) I have fun looking up the patterns. I am storing them in one drawer, chests I pick up cheap, and a Rubbermaid bin. There is a huge demand here for the forks, the hardest to find, because artisans use them to make bracelets and watchbands. I recently picked up almost a whole set with chest for $5 at a yard sale and another for $8 with chest at a thrift store. My personal pattern is the Navy Kings pattern; my uncle gave me his set with the fouled anchors and USN engraved on each piece. They are hard to find, so I supplement the set with regular Kings pattern. I love the antique engraving on yours; you can't get this kind of engraving anymore.... sadly.

Thank you so much, Cxgirl!!

Went to another sale this morning, put on by the same outfit. Within 5 minutes of getting inside I found a large coin silver serving spoon (maker active in Cincinnati OH 1855 - 1865) in pretty good shape and stuck in with a pile of run of the mill plated ware - 2 bucks!! Needless to say, I need to go to their sales more often!! ;)
