Oh, my! A copy of this hung on the living room wall of my aunt's home as long as I can remember! It gave me quite a start to scroll up to the post and see it, it brought many memories flooding in! Aunt Jane has been gone 20 years I think, she and I were very close, I'm the youngest of 3 girls and she never had any children of her own so she kind of adopted me. Until I was naughty. Then she'd call my mom and say "come get her!".

I hit one estate sale yesterday and another this morning, but the best finds were at a yard sale.

Look what I got for a total of $12 -

 Out of curiosity, do you know what it says under Moorcroft's signature? There are 2 lines of something, one of which starts with a P and the other with H. M. Somebody's name?

S.C.O.R.E! Finding Moorcroft at all in the US isn't easy. Somebody obviously didn't know what they had possibly for just that reason.

Today it was more vintage vs antique and some bits of weirdness. 130342F6-4CDC-4130-B225-0632DDCE5AC6.jpeg A very unusual looking pendant for $6. I like jewelry and items that remind me of anatomy so the middle “heart” sold it for me and home it came.

This funky pearly collar. It’s missing a bead at the tip but at $3 I can easily fix it. The weight is wonderful and so full of detail.

This random operculum tack pin sitting by itself in a jewelry case. I couldn’t ignore the staring. $2 and it’ll be a nice brooch to stare back at wandering eyes.

A stole in surprisingly good condition. No holes, balding spots, lining is intact with no wearing of the satin. No idea of the pelt source but super excited to bring it home for $30. C08F8316-C172-4268-A0AC-C427903AFBE0.jpeg 781E5226-5C2B-4562-A3F9-550466855D6F.jpeg

And what are the odds...a sterling chain necklace I posted as a find on here a few weeks ago that I scored in a thrift store for $7 has a twin which is being sold at the vintage/antique store I haunted today. Except the asking price is around $40.

    It is mink.
I love those beaded collars as well. I've got a couple of them, bought them thinking I would wear them on a dress, and of course I never did.

    Thank you!

Oh no, but you’ve got time to rectify that. I haven’t picked how to wear mine yet either but it’s going to happen even if the only place I wear it to is to clean out my bathroom.:joyful:

That's a just post war Moorcroft mark, I believe. Said Queen was the queen mother, wife to George VI. Looks like hibiscus. Bargain!

    Thanks, OBB!
But - hibiscus? Doesn't really resemble a hibiscus flower to me.

My thoughts exactly. I’m amassing a small cache of brooches and pins. I may as well use them!

Q.I inherited an old collar necklace and would like to know more about it. It's 16 inches long and 1 ¼ inches wide with five rows of beads, each row slightly larger than the one above it. There's a label sewn to the fabric backing that says "Handmade, A Top Hit Fashion, Baar & Beards, Inc., Japan."

    A. Baar & Beards was a retail store established in New York City in 1941 by Sylvan M. Baar and Milton Beards. It specialized in women's neckwear, including scarves and collar necklaces like yours. In the 1940s and '50s, when "Your Hit Parade" was a popular radio and TV show, Baar & Beards started selling scarves with pop-music themes. It seems that the company used the brand name "Top Hit" for other designs, too, including costume jewelry collar necklaces they ordered from Japan. Top Hit necklaces sell online for about $25 to $100.
