All of the old paper, btw, ought to sell handily at a flea market/brocante/car boot. I bought a stack of postcards this morning myself.

Do you have problems like this with every house clean out?

 

I hit the years' first tag sales today. One was advertised in the next town over that turned out to be a hoax - someone was playing nasty games. One was a dry well. They had stuff, but if it was on one table the prices were negotiable. Everything I wanted was overpriced and firm. Bye, folks. Third sale? A free coffee mug ... for someone else. Total spend: whatever I'd spent on gas. Fourth sale....? Jackpot. A flea dealer cleaning out "junk" and selling cheap.

I got a stack of postcards including some with nice graphics. An Uncle Wiggily kiddie mug advertising Ovaltine (small cracks, but it's 100 years old or close), advertising pins from Chevy, a tortoiseshell pin, what's probably a bag of frankincense, a desk fountain pen with gold nib, and.... a vintage photo of the Bluebird car. It was used to set speed records in Daytona in the 30s. And a coromandel gentleman. It all cost $11. Total. Then I made a pit stop and headed to a sale in another town. Got there, took one look at the steep and long driveway and kept going. Blew $30 in an antique store. The 14k mass-produced hoop earrings in my pile ought to cover $20 of that.(LOL) Told me they were sterling. Oops.

The last shot is what I found on Tuesday, minus the straight to scrap gold. The "cameo" is Italian 14k with full hallmarks, but it's one of the blue ones. The bracelet is heavy Mexican silver with stone and the earrings are 950 silver. NA maybe. The skunk is more Mexican silver, but he's worth more as a goofy skunk.

 

From the shade of blue, it does not even look like one of the ultrasonically cut stone ones, more like ceramic. The world won't miss it.

 

I was half thinking of giving it to my sister. Not my style either, but she'd like it. The chain is the one it came on - gold-filled. There isn't a ton of gold in it; the back is open.

 

Mother's Day is coming.

 

That's the idea. Her birthday is in September.

Did garage sales today;

 

Late 19th century Fasnet (Fasching) carnival masks. Got these bad boys for ridiculous money.
Does anyone have an idea how to clean and take care of them, so the rest of the paint doesn't come off?

Fantastic wood masks!

I'd first go with a medium soft DRY paint brush to remove dust, then stamp or slightly rub with pieces of soft bread. (The inside white part of our fresh French baguette de pain is perfect).
