!!!! Are these collectible now too? I don't know if laws are consistently like this, but in the state where my parents died, ashes are legally the property of the next of kin.

I was thinking what Komo beat me to - there may not have been a biological next of kin, at least none anyone could trace. I've watched Heir Hunters on Youtube enough to know that sometimes they can't find anyone. Maybe the lady just gave her church friends a home.

She may have been the one who paid for the cremations. Burial is more usual for those who have no one to make arrangements, no?

Might be, I hope I don't find anymore, or any mummified corpses
It is odd that a lot of the rings I've recovered have been cut off
Cremation is the most popular method here.

I've only ever been to 3 burials in my life, the last one was my ex MIL, I only went to make sure she was buried.:D

Did you put a stake through her heart just to make sure? (LOL) I've only been to a few actual burials, but did go to a memorial service this weekend.

Cut off the fingers, with a ring cutter ,whether they were dead or not I don't know.
I've also found a platinum or silver screw-in tooth too

I have a bridge sitting here somewhere. Not gold or platninum apparently, but I thought it would make a great weird pendant.

She might have been helping out at sometime at the Morgue or the Crem .

I remember around 35 years ago a local jeweller reported a customer to the police because the scrap gold he kept bringing in was misshapen and had scorch marks on.

Turns out the customer worked at the Crem and cleaned the furnaces out everyday.:D

He was locked up and went to jail, it was theft.
Any metals become the property of the treasury.
He signed an agreement before he was employed.
