I found a McCoy hyacynth vase tonight at a rummage sale for a whole quarter. It had a big chip and a big crack so I left it behind. (waaaaahhhhh!) I also saw an 18k chain being made off with, but the buyer is an old friend's fiancee and they're seriously nice people. It didn't hurt as much that way. I did bag a rose gold wide band wedding ring with a fancy design. No marks - some scrappers went right over it.

These had the funky yellow brown look of white brass / nickel silver. No smell of it though. No maker's mark or hallmark.

Polished like silver and the acid says they're silver.

So she bought another vase today. The lid was taped closed and when we came home we found these inside, so l am considering them a “find” ;)

MMarco, you may think I'm absolutely NUTS, but I actually recognize those matchbooks! A couple of years back, I did a free giveaway of hundreds of matchbooks I had collected over the years. Those shown here were among them! (You even have the site of my 1978 wedding reception in there, as well as some of my favorite places from years gone by!) It certainly makes me wonder....(!!!)

I have, in the past, found things that I gave away locally being sold on eBay, but this group actually was part of a huge box I sent cross-country (for free) & I'm wondering where you got them - i.e., where they ultimately wound up!

Just for the heck of it, what part of the country are you in?

Ha, I feel like singing “ It’s a small world after all” :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

We were at an estate sale in Ft Lauderdale.

Quick question, were you at Tom and Dianne’s wedding in 1981?

I finished the house where I found all the cash, yesterday.
All rubbish removed, cleaned out and done.

I moved onto the big house today, the first clearance as a result of my website.

I got the keys at 5.30pm and did a little prep for the coming week until 8pm

I took a peek in the attic and recovered 18k, 14k and 9k gold jewellry, some sterling silver, lots of costume jewellry.
A small amount of cash, no paper.

    No Rolex yet. :D

There's boxed electrical appliances, power tools and mail order stuff from the 60s and 70's up there too.

I also found a huge ugly Capodimonte ornament..and some interesting kitchenalia

No pics at the moment, lack of natural light and tiredness.

This next week should be hard work but fun.

Well, that's rather odd - not that you were in Fort Lauderdale, but that you got these there. I know that lots of people save matchbooks, but what are the chances that someone else had saved exactly the same disparate collection (actually, part of a collection) as I had??? This is waaaayyy too weird!

I sent them from NH to the west coast! Hmmm. I wonder if the person I sent them to sold them in groups on eBay or something, and maybe a bunch ended up in FL?
(Heck, I would have sold them myself, but he said he collected them.)

    How bizarre!

    Congrats, Davey!

What are people thinking when they leave gold & silver in the ATTIC??? (You might find too much stuff in MY attic, but you definitely would not find any precious metal!)

It was an old fella, his wife died about 15 years back and he put all her stuff up in the attic.
There's her perfume, clothing, sewing kits, wool, you name it, its up there.

    OMG, Marco - I WAS!!!

Tom was actually my BOSS from 1979-1983. This was in Alexandria, VA.

The Dianne he married was in the Junior League with me, in a Washington, DC area chapter. She always made such a big point of letting everyone know that she was "one of the Lee's of Virginia...) - think Robert E., I guess. (I was a CT Yankee, thru & thru - moved "south" for grad school & stayed for 20 years.)

Anyway, that marriage didn't last even until the end of 1983, which is when I left that company for a job in Maryland.

    Holy you-know-what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
