Loving all the finds. Lea Stein's cats all have names, you can google them....

Dirty detail, I go to settlement on Thursday. Can't wait to be rid of the last piece of settling this estate (except for doing this year's taxes.)

I am toying with the idea of retirement at 62 (I turn 62 on June 30.) I would have my minimal SS, a small pension, and small checks from the interest on my savings. I would also work by selling my finds, something I haven't done, all the good stuff went into a huge safety deposit box. Paying the medical scares me (hubby is 66 and I pay our medical insurance through my job.) But dying before I get to retire also scares me, I have seen this happen to too many of my colleagues.

I know it is up to each individual, but due to some health issues, I am always extremely fatigued, in addition to just being stressed from working so many hours a day. So, if you already retired, can you share your experiences?

I really enjoy seeing your finds. The pickings have been slim here, and I have been sleeping in on the weekends due to being tired. The best things I have found are some vintage coats that I am working on repairing. I got an 80s Forecaster of Boston made in the USA long black hooded coat with velvet trim for $1. I lost some weight, so I took a ton of coats to my consignment lady and some of the ones I was going to take to her now fit. I do have a few things to photograph, will work on it this weekend. I MISS YOU GUYS!!!

@Marko - I retired 2 yr. ago at 63; it was somewhat planned, I was tired and I wanted a few years with my daughter before she headed to college. No regrets. I'm happy puttering and thrifting, I have lunch while reading this forum most days. Have learned enough to start listing some finds to sell, have simply been dragging my feet on that score.

My Dad was 50 when he died; step-dad died at 57 only weeks before retiring.

Your health is so important. And frankly, working has its costs too! If you work a few more years but your health is ruined, what then?

    Only you can decide...

Had planned on starting to collect SS this year and quit my part time side job. Went ahead and quit in the Spring. Picking up more hours clerking at our group store and increased focus on my booth space has made it lucrative enough to stave off collecting SS for the time being. Am doing better now than when I was working on the side and I am working less hours overall. I am 63 so can probably hang out for awhile yet if things continue to go as they have been.

Guess my advice would be not to write anything in stone. I don't know your situation and, your medical premium obligations complicate things a bit, but you might try quitting and try to supplement your income in ways other than SS. You can always fall back on it if necessary.

All I can offer is this Marko...Ive known at least 3 people who have died right before or right after retirement and all of them kept putting it off because of money. One was my sister in laws mother and she died 2 weeks before. Im taking mine at 62 (if its still around) and the future be dammed!Lifes too short, why not enjoy the end game ? Ive got a paid off home,a few bucks in the bank and a way to make a shekel or two when needed . I KNEW hoarding all these pretties was a good idea!

Couple more things to show. Also will be posting some pieces of art and some glasses in the appropriate threads with questions.

Picked up this early Roseville planter at the thrift store for $1.99. Couple small chips but not complaining.

Bought this arts and crafts candlestick from a shop in Chicago when I was on vacation this Summer. Thought it a good buy at $35.00. No marks but likely European in origin. Appears to be gilt bronze.

    Nice link, thanks Marko!!

The puss cats were the equivalent of $13 each. I was quite pleased. ;)

I bought three at an antique mall on sale for half-price @ $37.50. I regret selling them even though I made a nice profit.

Ten quid for a Lea Stein cat? I'd have jumped all over those too - revenge for decades of cats jumping all over ME.(LOL) Brad - that candlestick looks straight out of the Secession. No idea what the American market is for that but... who cares?

Today I found ... a way to waste time.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

What I think I'm seeing in this image is someone's creation of a personalized "coat of arms"......VERY hard to tell what's there.....Eagle above, yes, but below and to the left looks like an Old English Text letter "F" and go to the other side of the shield and what I think I'm seeing is a right facing bearded head of a man wearing a like a knitted ribbed cap with the 'ball' on top.....best I can describe it at the moment. Underneath, but above the chain....in the ribbon it looks like letters 'F, O, maybe L, and that's all I've got so far......maybe another careful close-up picture with as little reflection as possible and no flash????

Lilly picked this up today $1. Anyone know what this vase is meant to hold? Incense sticks?

Nope, just a single flower. They call them "weed pots" for some reason. Its very pretty, but I think it might be newer Chinese.I dabbled in pottery for a while, but that doesnt mean Im not dead wrong !

Ruth, the person selling them thinks they're copies. And has more, so I shall grab them. I don't think they're copies, I think they're modern, rather than the vintage ones. No copy company would bother with proper lamination or make them that well.

I'd bet you're right. These were never popular here in the US, so I had to pull up the Wiki. They started making the pins again in the early 90s, so odds are they're not fake, just not old.

Picked these up this morning, good quality. Green glass is carved with gilting. The red pitcher is heavy crystal.

    Are they recognizable?

The pitcher (probably creamer?) looks like it may be one of the Kings Crowns. I don't think the tumbler is carved but pressed, but that's JMHO :)

Kings Crown creamer.. indeed it is.

Pressed glass... that what I wanted to say ;)

:) but now seriously... thank you very much, I appreciate your knowledge. :)
