Tidbit of info for any who care.

The AR in “AR-15” rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, named after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.” AR-15-style rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun.

Really....how about tidbit for any who don't just cherry pick information that suits their beliefs.....

" The AR in “AR-15rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.” ... “Assault weapon” is a political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s."

or how about this little tidbit......

Drawing from federal and state law definitions, the term assault weapon refers primarily to semi-automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns that are able to accept detachable magazines and possess one or more other features. Some jurisdictions define revolving cylinder shotguns as assault weapons.

Oh,...we care....we care to make informed decisions from all the relevant information that's out there.........not just sound bites !

I really dont believe this to be the correct forum for this discussion. I have immense respect for you and your knowledge on antiquities and vintage history. I also feel your position on this subject to be sincerely, in the most positive for all.

That said, it is disingenuous to use incorrect information. According to your post, every police officer, most security guards and every American citizens that hold a concealed carry permit, is carrying an assault weapon every day. ( why did your quote state “and possesses one or more other feature” but yet not distinguish what those features are). A single engine Cessna is not a fighter jet. And you’re kind of saying a fighter jet is any flying vehicle with engines and wings, and possess one or more other features.

Sorry if my position upsets you. We can take this to private message if it’s something you wish to continue. I’m done on this subject here.

My apologies to the forum. :(

Since it was my remark that tipped this off, I got curious about pinning the term down. Relying on Wiki for my info, so it may not be the last word, the main way an AR-15 does not qualify as an assault rifle is in that it does not offer 'select fire'; it has only the semiautomatic mode of firing. It may not meet the technical definition, but close enough for me. Fit it with a bump stock, way too close.

"I’m done on this subject here.."

Well , you may be.....& I respect that...but it puts no constraints on me or my ability to rebut & refute .....or agree with....any and all of your opinions.

I am in no way upset by your position.....I just see things differently than you.

    I'm sorry......if 'that' upsets you !

[gun question roundly ignored - been done to death elsewhere]

I'd leave this together. It's actually a nice piece of folk portraiture. Similar pieces were done here in the US honoring soldiers from both sides of our Civil War, the Spanish-American War, politicians, family members etc. It's been around over a century intact and it would be a crying shame to break it up now.

$avers on a non production Monday for $19.99+. From General Dynamics, Quincy Shipyard. It weighs a bloody ton for something that’s only 21” long, maybe lead filled or something. Not terribly valuable but locally it’ll do alright.

That ship model is awesome; it was doubtless made for some high muckety-muck at the company, and somehow landed in the $penders.

I just read all about these prepositioning ships and how they could carry enough supplies to support 4,000 Marines for 30 days.
There’s a couple large framed photos of them at $avers, I might buy them tomorrow.
