Me too. None tonight at the second sale, but I did get two pieces of beautifully carved Japanese ivory for ...50 cents the pair! Schreger lines, signatures and all. NFS for sure, since I can't legally sell them anyway. I'll be going back to that church's bag sale on Saturday. I gave away Ukrainian hand painted eggs, done on real eggs, a vintage travel cocktail shaker and a 1904 World's Fair glass mug ... who knows what's still there. (given to other shoppers so I couldn't buy them!)

The cameo shot is lousy, but best I can do for the moment. The last is an Alva Museum replica that ought to be a keychain. I'm thinking of converting it. DSCF9409.JPG DSCF9412.JPG DSCF9414.JPG

She looks like a really finely cut Flora type. Noses are (almost) always the first thing to go on lava & hardstone cameos, so first thing I check in assessing one of them. We await a more flattering portrait.

Those are some seriously huge hunks of ivory!

Is the Alva reproduction a miniature Japanese sword hilt?

The Tsuba would made a heavy key chain....:jawdrop:

Is that a monster tigerseye there too...?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Nice cameo -- And is that a hand on her shoulder? If so, whose?

Her own, keeping her robe from slipping off her shoulder. She's a popular lava model, given varying attributes to convert her to different figures.

I see... at first it appeared to be at an awkward angle to be her own hand, but I can kind of see it now. Thanks! :)

With the right accessories, she can be a bacchante:

Beautiful lava cameos.... love the milky white of yours, evelyb.

I have a good news/bad news story. I went to an outdoor antique show, and most of the stuff was pricey, but this guy had this necklace with a turquoise cross that caught my eye. My phone was charging, so I memorized the artists' signatures and looked them up quickly in the car (a hike away.) I decided the cross was worth it, but it was on this junky necklace (cross and junky necklace was $145 together.) Looked Asian made (necklace) to me, so the guy said I could have the cross for $75. This is the cross:

    Rocki signature (640x559).jpg

So I get home and do some more research. The cross itself with a non-artist chain was sold for $450 on ebay, see below:
    Rocki ebay (383x640).jpg

But I then I saw this on Worthpoint:
    Rocki Worthpoint (640x425).jpg

So the junky necklace my cross was on looked just like this necklace only with colors that matched my cross better. The main artist is a silversmith named Rocki Gorman, and sometimes she works with Native American artists, in this case, a Navajo silversmith.

If I had left the cross on the junky chain, I would have done better. The purple version above, intact, sold for $750 on Worthpoint this year.

DUH. But..... the dealer told me what town he lives in (about two hours away), and he told me about the flea market in town and the antique shops in town. So I am going on a road trip Saturday to see if I can locate him again and see if he still has the necklace part (her necklaces alone sell for $300.) I was thrown off because I didn't see a tag on the necklace, which would have identified the artists, but I think it was missing.

Garnet ring Mullica Hill (614x640).jpg And I got this garnet ring set in 900 silver with all kinds of hallmarks... the top is vermeil, the ring itself, silver color. I bought it for the color of the garnets.

Oh yeah, definitely do that. The stones on the Worthpoint necklace look like malachite & maybe sugilite, so think it would have (or should have) sold for even more than the more conventional turquoise. Those conical bead caps & simple hook & eye closure are very typical of NAM necklaces, even when the main work is very sophisticated.

The cones look like they are from "Bali" and not NA made.

Not much of a minuature - probably fairly close to full size. It's sitting on my hand, and I don't have small hands. It's about 2 5/8x2 3/4 inches.

Dunno about monster, but it's a decent size.

Hollyblue, I thought cheap Asian work, too. But Rocki Gorman makes these. I do not think she is Native American, but makes some pieces in conjunction with NA artists.
Bronwen, didn't know....the stones looked junky to me in the necklace I saw...I think this is just a designer who is popular now.

Oh, the several Tiffany pieces I could have had for not very much, if only I'd known. I do now, but of course their like has not come along again.
