    Cool stuff, CX!

I have some of those birds - they were sold as Christmas ornaments, 25 or so years ago, at Pier One Imports.

It's definitely 1990s or later from the construction. The stones are glued, and the colors and pattern are all wrong for anything older too. If it already has wear, go right ahead and mess with it.

The "pin cushions" look like Hungarian design Christmas ornaments. Possibly made in China at this point, but the designs are Hungarian.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I've also seen kits for making those types of ornaments...

I agree with Ruth. I have embroidered tree ornaments like that, bought in Budapest.

I had never heard of Salvador Teran until I bought a brooch/necklace today which seems to be by him. I'm a bit pleased with that. Photo to follow!

I went treasure hunting yesterday.... tons of yard sales heading down south, and my usual Memorial Day hunting grounds didn't prove all that fruitful. I stopped in an antique mall, and I saw this ring that was listed as 14k garnet and diamonds. I really liked it, and the price was negotiable. So I bought it.

The antique mall is kinda dark, so when I got out in the sunlight, the colors were very different. I thought, okay, rhodolite garnets. The center one appears to be cushion cut, end stones ovals. Diamonds, old European cut? They have a cutlet on the bottom.

So I get home, and I test them on the Presidium. I think my machine needs to be calibrated (another thing on the list to do.) I had readings from spinel, topaz, to ruby....I believe these are unheated Burmese rubies... see what you think.

I can't place all of them, but the ornaments above the stuffed birds seem to refer to children's stories. The one is clearly the Princess & the Frog, the top 3 echo Little Red Riding Hood.

Is the antler owl signed? Not a whistle, is it? Looks like a hole on the right?

This makes for interesting pictures in the mind, but think you meant culet.

That blue red is promising for ruby. Beyond that is beyond me.
