A couple of days ago I went to my favourite antiques centre, I didn't find anything really except a little box with some green velvet lining, it was cheap so I bought it to strip.
Later that day I looked inside and found this steel ribbon threader/bodkin, I don't know much about them so I sent pics to a very knowledgeable dealer I know and she said what a nice find.
While not particularly rare they are very collectible and 200 years old as shown by the date on it.

Princess Charlotte died young after a long gruelling labour and the nation mourned her deeply and it spawned these kind to items.
My dealer friend tells me it's worth anything from £50-60.
Not bad for a £5 investment and right up my street :)

The little Ivory box with sliding lid came from my collection and it fits in there really well.
I don't know it's original use though, I bought it as a needle box but I'm not sure on that.

    In case it isn't clear...
On one side it says....PRINCESS CHARLOTTE DIED.
    On the other side...NOV.6. 1817 AGED 21. IMG_1317.jpg IMG_1316.jpg IMG_1318.jpg

Believe if she had not, Victoria probably would never have come to the throne? I'm a Yank, so please excuse shaky knowledge on this point. In the current BBC series, Victoria the character mentions Charlotte in explaining her trepidation about having children. How curious, to commemorate a death, not the whole life, & on such an item. Great find & how wonderful it looks in the little ivory box.

Its unlikely that Victoria would ever have been born but for that tragic event so yes that is correct.
I loved watching the series Victoria and hope there will be more.

It looks perfect in the box doesn't it, if I had to go out and find one it would have been difficult and there I had the very thing :)

Hope so too, will be interesting to see them age Jenna Coleman all the way to the end of Victoria's life. Maybe Dr. Who will let her use the police box again.

In the Savers somewhat near us, which I don't go to that often, I have yet to find something that even remotely resembles a Jewelry counter!!!!!! GOOD chance anything never even makes it there.....IF THERE WAS ONE!!!!!

I usually say "jewelry weirder than me, but that's hard to find so I settle for older than me".

?I so infrequently buy or sell anymore, but I maintain an interest in looking. My “find” is a series of coincidences. I was looking at an online catalogue from one of auction houses. It was for an upcoming antiques and fine arts sale. Not much of interest to me but I paid attention to the Canadian art on sale.

My son in law’s bday was nigh and I didn’t have a card so I decided to make one. I went to my paper stash to get some card stock, and I found a small watercolour painting that I had bought at a thrift. Of course, I had completely forgotten that I had it. I paid a couple of bucks at most and had removed it from a cheap frame. The reason I bought it was because it was a rather sweet rendition of the view of Mt. Baker from the east coast near where I live.

I thought I would try to find a frame for it and I looked at the signature and thought, “ I’ve seen that somewhere.” Well, I had seen it on numerous watercolours in the auction house catalogue! It’s by a listed Canadian artist, Arthur Henry Parker who died in 1941. The other auction house in town said it would be suitable for their up-coming BC History auction! They didn’t give me any estimate, though, LOL. I’d be surprised if it sold for more than $25. I’m still thinking I’ll get a nice little frame for it!

But what a weird set of coincidences!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That's interesting! Are you going to put it in the auction, or keep it?

Dunno. The seller’s commission would eat up most of the profit! OTOH, the chances of me getting around to framing it are relatively slim...;)
