    92 world's fair. Marked 'US STERLING', it's nickel plate on brass.

    The shell is missing on the other side. The gold ring turned out to only be platinum.

    @Bronwen
    They are actually not Medusa heads—they are Mercury heads. Mercury was the Roman God of financial gain and commerce.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Might be for the 1892-1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago? (On my phone and didn't look up the correct name.)

    Interesting, since searching for 'belfast medusa note' turns up things like this.

    Probably should alert the keepers of the Medusa Rondanini they've got it all wrong.

    Catalogues that state that the are Medusa heads are mistaken—they are Mercury heads.
    Even my Krause (US) World banknotes describes one note as having Medusa with Mercury at the centre.
    The link you show is an American catalogue.
    The water marks are also Mercury.
    They are not Belfast notes, that is where the bank is, they are Northern Ireland banknotes.

    Here`s a site that buys obsolete banknotes back from ignorant and gullible people, they are worth very much more.

    Today I went to an "estate" sale that was really a moving sale. When asked about old costume jewelry "Oh I gave all of that away".:bigtears::bigtears::bigtears::bigtears::bigtears: Spent $6 total on two photo frames, a friend's birthday present, and a $5 electric fan another friend asked me to buy him. OTOH I met someone I knew at the Ill Will, where I'd found pieces of my mom's 1960s formal china, who handed me a Chinese silver bracelet as a gift. Can't say I was too upset about that.:smuggrin:
