Not really a find because it came from my step brother, my wife mentioned she wanted to start collecting beach glass in jars for suncatchers in the windows.
My bro dropped this by today, about 2 gallons worth. This is the bigger stuff that he must have picked decades ago, everything we find now is small, mostly minuscule. :)

KoT, I have a little reading light almost like that, except in bright brass. I found a big plastic jack-o-lantern with a missing light, and clipped this light inside, works great for that!

    They didn't.
Utilities ran willy nilly everywhere and cut and left old wires hanging. :p

That's not even a bad mess compared to some I've seen.

I have a decent sized collection of beach glass, almost all of it gathered when I was a kid.

My family had a house at the beach, and we spent the entire summer there every year, from the day school let out until Labor Day.

I remember very clearly that during the summer of 1969, it rained every single day. Wet days at the beach aren't necessarily much fun, but my friend Eileen, who lived "down the beach" a ways, and I spent that summer searching for beach glass. We'd walk miles one way, turn around, walk back, and go another mile or two the other way.

In 1969 "red" glass was the real prize (we never found any) with "blue" (think Noxema jars!) in 2nd place. From there, it was greens, browns, & clear, in descending order of desirability.

Anyway, there was a middle-aged lady who lived down the beach, and she fancied herself a true expert in beach glass. (We were just kids, so we listened to her...)
Every time we ran into her (she was always out searching, too, so we saw her often) she'd demand to see what we'd found.

She would paw thru our buckets, pulling pieces out and throwing them back into the surf. "Too big!" she'd declare, or "Too sharp!" or "Too clear!" She never took any of our finds for herself, but she certainly taught us what "good" sea glass was "supposed" to be!

The pieces I have to this day are not minuscule, but they are certainly not large (or sharp... or clear) either.

You can see a little of it in this photo, which I posted in a different thread last month (in the short jar on the bottom shelf, in front of the setter):

I've noticed that there is a big market for sea/beach glass jewelry.

    Hi,
Well with recycling there is smaller and smaller amts of beach glass. Unfortunately there is larger and larger amts of glass that is treated instead of REAL beach glass. It is almost impossible to tell real beach glass from the fake. So many people are buying "beach glass" as real glass that has NEVER even seen the the sea.

Sounds like you guys are actually reading "real" books as opposed to on a tablet with its own inherent light.............:smug::smug::smuggrin:
