Great job on researching your items, and I'll second the opinion on the shell. Wow!! Beautiful!! I've never seen it's like; I'd definitely pick it up if I saw it!

the detail of the plume in the finial in one way to differentiate Gillinder 'Westward Ho' originals from Wright & Westmoreland reproductions. Might also check the glass under black light; originals would have manganese content showing faint green, whereas reproductions may not. I don't have specific experience with this particular pattern under black light but other reproductions can be defined this way. Tho' some mfgs also used manganese in more recent times; so it's not always determinate.

The finial on originals has definite plumes whereas the reproductions have a straight line for the plume.

Also, in the oval compote, the deer has an open mouth or blurred mouth on the reproductions while the original deer have a closed mouth.

Well, for 50¢, I sure wasn't going to let it stay on the bargain shelf at the thrift shop ... it was much too interesting not to give it a new home :)

I also forgot to show this beat-up old painting, which I'm guessing is a solar enlargement (correct term? - another candidate for its own thread) They hated her at the thrift :( and had her priced at $5 :) So ... we happily adopted her!

Great finds quirkygirl and aaron - of course I love all the pottery and glass treasures!! ;)

    Neat buys, Charlie!

Good pickin' everyone! I'm unpacking old inventory (and finding some surprises). Not going anywhere for several days with the nasty hurricane that will have a impact on our area. Our home is not in a flood plain thankfully, but the area in general is still forecast for 5-20 inches of rain, no one really knows. Plus some gnarly wind possibly. We are towards the outer edge of it, so there is some relief and less impact. Shopping the grocery store in preperation for hurricane is bonkers.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes! They are also sometimes called crayon portraits ("crayon" does not refer to the types of crayons we have today).

Yep. Swarovski. Gloria Vanderbilt uses a swan too, but the high quality stuff is Swarovski.
